Description: Our Family has nearly a century old tradition of serving "Serious Barbecue." Andy Sr. Learned his labor of love from his dad, 'Guy Nelson' - Chief Barbecue Man for Limestone County, Alabama. In the 50's, Andy & Betty were not only attending Memphis State, raising a family, and sighting the real Elvis, but they were also developing a BBQ style all their own, integrating the spiciness of Memphis BBQ with the Old Nelson Family tradition. Andy's not famous for his championship years with the Baltimore Colts; he's famous for his hickory smoked BBQ. Ask Andy and he'll tell you that one of the secrets is slow cooking. Our BBQ is smoked many hours over Hickory logs until it falls off the bone, then simmered in our own heirloom sauce. Regularly voted "Baltimore's Best BBQ" by the staff and readers of Baltimore Magazine and the City Paper, this is one "Q" you won't want to miss. So let us take you and your guests down the Ol' Mississippi with great "Q" and maybe a little Elvis background music (streamed from Andy's iPod, of course). We recommend adding some of our Extra Fixin's to compliment your meal. We have been providing the Maryland area residents with the Best BBQ in a family atmosphere for over 30 years. We have been delivering quality BBQ to our local community and have never lost sight of what "The Best Q" means to our family and our guests. When it comes to BBQ, we make sure that everything is always made from scratch and everything always tastes perfect. I guarantee it! -Andy Nelson

Dry rubbed ribs are the way to go here. St Louis style, so you have to pull the meat off the bone, but that is my personal preference. Smoke ring is evident on every rib, and the dry rub is excellent. The sauces are quite good as well. Their chicken wings are first class, and the stewed tomatoes....maybe the best bbq side I have ever had! Will definitely be back!

This place is Great! Old time pics on wall. The owner Andy came to our table to check on us. The BBQ was out of this world. The Apple cake great. The homemade Apple cider complimented the meal perfectly. Can't wait to get back.

We try to stop in at Andy Nelsons when ever we are in the area. All the BBQ is good and the service is very good. The cornbread is a must have. If you are not 100% satisfied Andy Nelson Jr will make it right. They even have a Swine club membership that offers discounts thru out the year. On our last visit there a couple weeks ago we had the regular sized pulled pork sandwich platter. It was excellent! The larger size would have been too much to eat. The BBQ beans and potato salad were very good as well. Good ribs good brisket. Good BBQ. Look for the giant pig out front or you will miss it on busy York road.

Those of us seniors who remember a small bar-b-que joint years ago will not want to miss this unique restaurant/carry-out. Excellent food.

I’ve spent a lot of time at BBQ joints in the South. Andy Nelson’s is good but it’s not Corkey’s in Memphis. Service was fast, efficient and very polite. I had the brisket sandwich, roll was tasteless white bread. Meat was hot and flavorful. Limited sauces on the table, would like more options like those at Red, Hot and Blue. Potato salad was good, the Mac and cheese tasted like it was out of a box. Pleasant experience but not my first choice for BBQ.

Hi Mark,
We're glad to hear that our dishes are good for you, but disappointed that Andy Nelson's BBQ isn't the best. Our Mac and cheese is a well-loved dish that is made from scratch daily. We strive to keep our recipes as delicious as they have always been for our guests. We hope to see you again soon.
