Was visiting family in the Washington DC Alexandria area and decided to take a trip to the water for an evening meal. All of the reviews led us to believe that this would be the perfect place to enjoy a great meal with a great view. And, at first blush, we were not disappointed. The scenic drive, the perfect location on the water with a small town feel, the extensive outside eating areas and the amazing menu that couples Southern standards with local seafood favorites had us extremely excited. Sadly, part of the outdoor seating area has a view that is completely blocked by The Dockside Bar. We took a seat outdoors and were excited to enjoy the sunset over a wonderful family meal. Sadly, a young and inexperienced waitress almost ruined our entire evening. She could tell us almost nothing about the on tap beer selections other than what was most popular. She failed to advise us that two of their most popular appetizers were not available until after we had ordered them, returning to the table to give us the information almost ten minutes later. She failed to return to refill water or beverages, failed to clear the table after we had completed the appetizer and generally failed to return to the table at all to follow up until the end when she asked if we wanted dessert. The restaurant was only mildly busy on a Sunday evening in late April. I shudder to think of this type of staff during a busy summer weekend evening. On a positive note, the food was amazing. We shared their famous crab dip and really enjoyed their version of shrimp and grits. Everything that was brought to the table was delicious. They have a great children's menu that includes fresh fruit and several non-fried options. Would we return? absolutely. Hopefully, management takes note that the competency of the wait staff weighs greatly on a customer's experience.
