Will be returning soon. Four times thus far have I enjoyed dining at Paladar. First time, FRI 5 PM, standing room only. The 5 of us came to discuss med school application, 2 fathers 3 young ladies, so we settled for booth dining away from the extremely loud bar area. Excellent cooking, but a bit too much and pricy, you can't eat a 3 course meal here. Second time, long drive home, 9 PM which is when late night happy hour starts EVERYDAY, 2 adults, 2 boys. A wonderful late meal for the family, at happy hour price. Third time, with a colleague on THU at 6, he didn't like his rum drink, but loved the food. Fourth time, Wed 3 to 6:30, 4 middle-aged men discussing blockchain and the brave new world that is to come. They have a nice varied selection of appetizers for Happy Hour (4 to 7) priced at $4, $6 & $8, the guys really enjoyed the variety and taste, so much so that the food actually competed for the thoroughly engaging conversations we've always had. Considering that we have had 6 to 7 gatherings, each at a different eatery, this is saying much about what comes out of their kitchen and none of us particularly cared for Latin fare.
And O, though the wait staff is hard to catch, as it gets quite busy, they were pleasant considerate folks. We got there at 3, but Happy Hour doesn't start until 4, the waiter very politely inquired whether he should wait until then or do we want something, not like places where they want to make sure you start running up the tab otherwise, why are we even here, right? We ran up the tab, gladly. Interesting beer selection and the waiter kept the chips coming for the Trio Salsa, such healthy and wonderful veggie chips, and most interesting salsa. Definitely order it. Never had it better else where. They give you such good portion salsa, you need to have the chips refilled at least 3 or 4 times. The yucca fries have 3 different interesting dips. The Peruvian Mussels is most flavorful with corn and all kinds of spices, loved it. One guy took off early, the 3 of us were literally posturing to get the 4th Roasted Pork Tostones.
