Today we visited the Pollo Mex Chicken and Mexican Grill located in the Colesville Shopping Center at the NE corner of New Hampshire and Randolph Road for the first time. We were impressed by the charm of the place, with warm terra cotta colored walls, historic photographs of Pancho Villa, good music, comfortable tables, and excellent food. The servers are fast, friendly, and helpful. The restaurant seats about 50 people. Free parking is close by. This is a delightful place to sit. There is also a pleasant outdoor seating area in front of the restaurant.
This restaurant features an extensive menu of appetizers, soups, platters, combination plates, many omelets and egg dishes including benedicts, rotisserie chicken, ribs, steak, fajitas, chimichangas, quesadillas, tamales, fajitas, tacos, nachos, huevos rancheros, ceviche, taquitos, elolte loco, soups, enchiladas, burritos, seafood including jambalaya and paella, steak dinners, grilled pork, chicken in many many forms inexpensive platters for two, entrees, salads including a taco salad and chicken salad, as well as a spinach salad with fruit and vegetables, and many side dishes (yucca, coleslaw, corn, tortillas, salads, pico de gallo, steamed vegetables, papusas, avocado, guacamole, rice, beans, tostones, empanadas, sour cream and sweet plantains).

They also make burrito bowls with side orders such as fried yucca, chorizo, steam vegetables, avocado, beans, tostones, empanadas, and sweet plantains. For drinks, they have wine, beer, soda, iced tea, coffee, hot tea, and very large range of mixed drinks. There is an amazing range of special brunch dishes, which we look forward to trying out.
There are also some amazing lunch specials, such as the pollo guidado with shredded chicken marinated in guiso sauce with tomatoes, onions, and cilantro served with rice, black beans, and fries or a salad. Food prices for food this fresh, tasty, and authentic are very reasonable ($12-<$20).
I tried out three different burritos (spinach with white wine and garlic, a traditional shredded chicken, and a white cheese burrito). All were excellent, but the spinach was a stand out. My husband had the pork chimichanga. Both meals were served with a starter of excellent pico de gallo and handmade corn chips, a large serving of Spanish rice, a good sized serving of refried beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, a generous serving of guacamole, and sour cream. The meals came overflowing the huge platters on which they were served. Each dinner could have served two easily. I ended up carrying half of mine home for enjoyment later.
The business hours are excellent Sunday-Thursday 11 AM-10PM; Friday-Saturday 11 AM-11PM; Brunch on Satudays ad Sundays from 11 AM-3PM; and a Happy Hour on M-F from 3PM-6PM. The restaurant also delivers. There is a large amount of free parking near by.
