Review of The Paddle Inn

This is Newburyport's version of a hipster restaurant. It's a tiny place (a long bar and a single row of tables) with a retro ambiance. Very creative food where every dish has a unique spin on it. Good place to try something different but don't expect to find any traditional choices. One downside is that it can be a little cliquey where all of the customers and bartenders seem to know each other and you feel like an outsider. Probably best to go on a weeknight when you're in the mood for something different.

Paddle Inn is a sliver of a restaurant in a town with many nice places, but it does offer new possibilities. Falafel, Chinese chicken salad, fried green tomato BLT, and other unusual dishes. The falafel wrap with spinach and veggies in a spinach tortilla was delicious as were the vegetable tacos in soft white flour tortillas. Both came with spicy corn chips (or fries if preferred). Nice selection of wines by the glass, and a tempting dinner menu for another visit.

This is a truly unique restaurant downtown. It may look like just a tiny summer-themed bar, but the Paddle Inn actually serves up some creative, fairly sophisticated and delicious food. It is billed as comfort food with an international flair (I would say Thai inspired) and has a menu that revolves with the seasons. We stopped in for dinner on a particularly frigid winter night and snagged the last table. It's pretty cozy, with seating at the bar or at one of a handful of tables. It was a young-ish crowd, maybe even some on first dates (good choice!). Our waitress was lovely and our food was wonderful -- from the wings, to the salad, to the short ribs -- we really enjoyed it all. Would definitely return.

A mid-Saturday afternoon found us in this lovely bar in the heart of Newburyport for a round of libations. The weather was sunny and mild for a January, and the team working the bar was friendly and attentive. The New Zealand white was crisp and delightful and the rarely found Singapore Tiger lager was a nice beer to quench the thirst. Our timing was between lunch and dinner. The Paddle Inn was only half filled so we had plenty of time to engage in delightful banter with the bar staff. Our 1981 Nasty Girl was a favorite, for sure. When in town, make sure to make a stop by to enjoy this friendly, bright, and cheery place with a great staff.
