"Charming" is the perfect word for the Hawley Cottage. The porch with rockers and Adirondack chairs was the focal point for our stay - all day and into the evening.
As described it is a summer cottage with the perfect amount of "rustic" for what we wanted but also great amenities (internet access, good cell phone service, appliances in perfect working order, fans in every room). The outdoor shower was a totally fun experience. The neighbors are incredibly friendly and really fun to talk to.
We have rented in the area before and this place was just as nice for much less money.
Finally the owners were remarkably responsive to any questions we had and kept us completely up to date on any changes.
Note - you do need to bring your own bed linens and towels and do your own cleaning at the end - probably how the owners keep the cost down. But it is TOTALLY worth it. And it gives you most of the day on check out day which is another bonus. Also - save some room in the car ... Manomet does not make recycling easy so plan to take non-returnables home with you.
I would definitely book again.
I'd like to first compliment the owner of this charming property. She was extremely helpful and friendly, and most importantly, really cared about our experience in her home. The home is situated in a lovely neighborhood with beach access and is a short walk to ice cream and the grocery store. Plimoth Plantation is a short drive and functions like a community center, including two movie theaters and a delightful farmer's market. I recommend this property for large families (it sleeps up to 10 people) that enjoy going to a mellow beach (no blaring radios or food stands). A truly relaxing place to visit and the drive to Manomet beats the drive to the Cape! Thank you for sharing your lovely home with my family.
We had 3 Families staying here and had a lot of fun. Was just perfect for us.
You should know that the house itself is somewhat rustic. The inside of the house is more like a cabin with exposed wood and it is quite clearly exclusively a summer home and purpose built.
The 4 rooms are large enough with plenty of storage places for clothes and such.
Bathroom was simple and basic but functional. There's actually two but the downstairs is only a half bath and the walls don't go all the way up to the ceiling, so if you value your privacy and want to be considerate you'll probably use the upstairs for any serious business if you catch my drift...
The Yard and porch were absolutely perfect for my 2 year old and 10 month old. We also had a few older kids that really enjoyed playing in the yard and walking around the neighborhood.
Speaking of the neighborhood, it couldn't be more relaxing and friendly. Everyone was there for the same reason. Not all renters, but all there to enjoy the beach and relax. Plenty of great lookouts from on top of the bluff.
The beach access was fantastic for kids. Very mild waves, almost no real waves at all. Amazing peaceful water during low tide. It's not ideal when the tide is half way up because the shore line is very rocky there, but if it goes out further it becomes sandy and enjoyable.
Low tide was perfect for my 2 year old who loved playing in the water and looking at shells and rocks. Lots of hermit crabs and other interesting things crawling about. Bring a little net and see what you can find!
The major drawback of the beach is that the access of the water is via something like 140 stairs. Not really that big of a deal because the stairs have little bench areas you can stop and rest at along the way if need be. But it does present a bit of a problem when you have two kids and loads of stuff to carry up and down. Still very much worth the effort in my opinion.
