We went here for sandwiches for lunch and ended up buying much more.
The sandwiches were great and the service as well. We ended up bringing home fresh parpadelli pasta and sauce (not gravy, btw). Along with cheese; she knew her cheeses and wine; he knew his wines. Great welcoming atmosphere, food and service.

I work in the area of Davis Square and have never been disappointed in the food at lunchtime. I've tried wraps, subs, soups and sauces and enjoyed it all. The sandwiches are very generous and could easily be enough for two. Go early or late, at noon they are very busy.

Dave's is an amazing store and cafe, small and packed with products and activities. They do make and sell pastas (I am not a fan) and prepared foods(ditto) and they sell a large variety of high end (and hard-to-find) imported and local items, as well as cheeses, meats, fresh fish, produce, wines and beers. ( It's hard to believe how much stuff they pack into that small space- everything you need to set up a new dorm kitchen or a seasoned chef's larder !) In addition to the grocery, their sandwich bar is the Dave's feature that has made us regulars there. For it, they use our fav local breads from Iggy's, and meats that they roast themselves, along with house-made sauces and local artisinal pickles. The Cubano is huge and heavy, easily enough for two; house-roasted pork, ham, gruyere, chipotle mayo, thin dill pickles, all pressed on Iggy's ciabatta for a fantastic crunchy crust. But their inventive sandwich reputation is widespread, so the few indoor cafe tables are packed at prime time.

The young staff at Dave's is, like Dave himself, laidback and helpful. It's a

First, it is chaos at lunch time, the lines even block access to some chips!

The Italian sub style was skimpy in meet, too much bread and lacked the taste of a good sub.

The Reuben was boring, again too much bread and there was not the contrast of the Sauerkraut; it was dull.
