Went on a Sunday right at 5, which was good because by 5:30 the place was packed. Could have been the rain or the long weekend, but in an instant it was full with all ages. Had a mix of Southern food and traditional pub food, but always with a twist. Worth checking out, but go early if possible.

Always a wait but we'll worth it. An " educated" CROWD in a nice quiet section of Somerville between davis sq and high school. Nice menu and I recommend it all!

I'm reluctant to write this review since I love Highland, they don't take reservations and I don't want to encourage even more people to go. But.

Let's start with the bar. Lots of choice, very knowledgeable bartenders and decent prices means you'll be well looked after. They have beer for snobs and PBR drinkers alike. They have classic cocktails and a great variety of liquors if you are particular (Bluecoat Martini - yum!). The wine list is short but good and also reasonably priced. So, you're in good hands for drinks.

The food is made with fresh ingredients. It's not fancy or trendy - just really solid and tasty. Apps and snacks are good, with the two standouts being the Buffalo Brussels Sprouts and the Gordita. The Sprouts are tender, with a crunchy coating and classic buffalo wing sauce. The Gordita is a pile of tasty pork and cabbage slaw atop one of the best masa cakes I've had. Mm mm mm. Entrees are split between sandwiches and plates. The menu has five or six of each, so you have a lot of options. Every entree I've tried has been delicious. I especially like the pappardelle bolognese. Fresh pasta, low-simmered bolognese and truffle oil. Probably my favorite dish in any restaurant. Desserts are also really good, if you have room. And, there are some nice aperitifs to enjoy with your sweets (grappa or Chartreuse for me).

Staff are awesome. They take care of you, and know their stuff. If you're not sure about something, just ask!

I highly recommend this restaurant. Highland, you're the best!

I loved Highland Kitchen. High quality comfort food. I ordered the goat stew and a ginger beer, and was rewarded with hearty flavors and spice. Staff was friendly, loud but vibrant atmosphere.

This was a Sunday breakfast visit. Small wait about 1:00 but the bartender gave us waters and menus. Seated right next to the trio playing music. The service was good but the food was just Ok. I had the huevos rancheros and the beans were under cooked. The spicy beef chili on the other hand does not have any beans in it. Nice place but I'd probably pass on another breakfast. Maybe a dinner just to hear the music!
