We have been to Cafe Mangal for lunch countless times over the past few years. I have met clients here for lunch, and my teenager daughters and I vote it our favorite lunch spot. Lunch features exceptional salads, sandwiches (the caprese is a favorite in my family) and homemade soups (if you are in the area on Wednesdays, do not hesitate to stop by for their out of this world lentil soup).
For some reason, we have only been there for dinner once, and we went again this past weekend-- what took us so long to come back? The ambiance is lovely (we had a table in the window and felt tucked away as we looked out on the snowy sidewalk), it is BYO (what's not to love about bringing your favorite wine?) and the food was outstanding. The shining stars on the menu that night were the meze platter (a selection of 4 dips, featuring beet, carrot, and dill yogurt-based dips and an amazing hummus) and the lamb dishes (rack of lamb and kebab dishes). The entree items are in the $25-$39 range, but the taste and presentation make it worth the price. Also, without the inflated charge for alcohol, our dinner for 4 (with shared appetizer, entree and coffee/cappucino) came out to about $120 per couple, with tip.
The wait staff was absolutely lovely-- the perfect balance of attentive and patient as we told her we were in no hurry. We were also greeted at the night's end by the chef, Mehmet, who wanted to know if we were pleased with our dining experience and then shared with us the marinade for the lamb (that included milk in addition to olive oil and spices). We look forward to returning, especially to try the grilled sea bass that is normally on the menu but was not offered that evening because the bad weather delayed delivery of the fresh fish.
