Prior to visiting Mi Pueblo, my previous benchmark for authenticity when scanning a Mexican restaurant menu was whether they offered fillings beyond the usual chicken/beef/pork and went beyond to include chorizo and lengua (beef tongue), so I was pleasantly surprised to discover cabeza (beef head) and chicharrones in salsa roja here, in addition to all of the above. Indeed I was not disappointed by the excellent flavours and the prices and portions represented excellent value. Live music from a mariachi band was energetic and fun.
The only things that keep my rating from being better than 4/5 were the spicy salsa, which was just middling and the monthly special, chicken mole enchiladas, which my companion ordered. The mole lacked any real heat and while I was expecting the chicken to have been stewed in the mole, the sauce was merely a garnish to otherwise ok, but unexceptional chicken enchiladas. Regardless, I'd certainly return with a larger group to explore more if the menu in the future!
