This was a little bit secluded, but had parking close to the beach and, unlike the state parks, allowed dogs on the beach.

Public beach on Lake Michigan. Great dunes for climbing. Nice beach for swimming in summer or walking along in fall.

Make the trek to the lake from Montague and Whitehall and you won't be sorry. You walk up a bit the channel from the parking lot to the beach, but once there the water (and view) is spectacular. It stays shallow for a ways out so would be great with smaller kids. Very dog friendly too. The only downer is the disgusting bathrooms (basically port-o-potties in a building). I took one star off for that as it was that terrible at 10 am and I don't even want to think about what it was like in the heat of the day...

you must go. no charge for parking or entry. Can be fogged in on certain days, so have back up plans if you need.

Funny name for not much of a park. When I lived closer, I spent many hours almost daily fishing off the channel wall that separates Lake Michigan and White Lake. Medbury is on the Montague(North) side of White Lake while Whitehall is across the channel to the South.(White River Light Station can be seen and nicely photographed from the Montague side but is actually on the Whitehall side and open for business such as tours on that side)
A picnic table and brick vault outhouse with men's and ladies sides are about all I can say relates to a "park". Lake Michigan access and a beach(no marked boundaries, so stay close to the channel wall, private property isn't far away) make this a great place to relax. Benches on the channel wall offer rests during walks.
Take Dowling(stoplight in Montague) up the big hill and all the way to the end. Turn left at the stop sign. Follow this road around a couple curves and hills. This is Old Channel Trail. A couple miles down you'll see a big sign for the channel/park(Lau Rd I believe, yes it's spelled correctly:-). Turn Left and go down the hill. To the right at the bottom is a liitle bridge and the road to the parking lot.
Boat Launch Facilities straight through at the bottom of the hill if you don't turn right and over the bridge.
