“Absolutely fabulous South African Food”
Review of Potluck Boskombuis

Potluck Boskombuis
Ranked #1 of 25 Restaurants in Graskop
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$6 - US$12
Cuisines: African
Description: The word is out on the town and this little "Boskombuis" is creating wonders and just doing something completely different. Welcomed at the humble boma entrance you are escorted into an unforgettable traditional South African dining experience combined with the most splendid views and lazy, no-rush ambiance. Tucked right up against a gigantic round boulder, is a log fire where most of the food is prepared. To the front, pulling the children with an unseen magnetism, is the Treur river, with its crystal clear water, gently flowing a mere stone's throw away from the dining area. The menu itself is short and to the point, with open flame grilled steaks taking the centre stage. Apparently local "potjie" specialities are prepared over weekends. You need to plan a little in advance, the weather can change easily in this part of the world...do take some warm clothes or a blanket. Potluck Boskombuis has no credit card facilities or mobile phone coverage, take enough cash to cater for a blissful outdoor experience that will leave everlasting memories and make one want to visit again and again....

This restaurant is so good, quirky, off road, fabulous views, good local food. I had the vegetarian bake. Very tasty and great cake and coffee to finish. Only house wine but at 25 rand per glass, what more could you want!

Three years ago we already visited Boskombuis at its very first beginning of bussiness. We were told then that this project was a grown idea of some friends gathering at that place since a while when the idea came to them making it more commercial. Today it has grown to a restaurant worthy that name with a specific character. The menu card is still basic but has become longer through the years and a lapa has been build. The view stays as glorious as it already was. Defiantly value for money

First things first..... Have a notice at you enterance that you only work on cash only!! For someone passing by and wanting to have lunch and that does not travel with cash its a good sign to rather pass. The road is a gravel road and only accessable for 4 x4. The bridge you have to cross does not look sturdy. When we got down to the restaurant eventually we where ignored an people where caring a table and wood logs for people to be seated. They were full at that stage and we where offered to wait and look at the menu. No waiting space..... We ended upleaving withou eating as the service was poor. Good idea but relook at a few things..... Maybe put a notice that you are full as well.

This restaurant is well signposted, it's off the road, but it's only 2 minutes from the exit. The road up to it is unpaved, and the bridge across the river doesn't look too sturdy. The restaurant itself is outdoor only. In fact it's quite primitive as there is no electricity and no running water. instead they have BBQs made out of truck rims, and a lot of ice to keep drinks and food cool. The food served is fairly simple but tasty, and the location makes it an experience not to be missed. The tables are overlooking the river. Since you are in the bush, you may spot some wildlife while you are eating. we saw a baboon crossing the river. Lots of fun!
