The place to be, especially in the summer, for walking or cycling. You'll find tourists closer to Canal Park, and more local people further up the path. You can walk from the path down to the Lake Superior beach at various points.

“Nice area, but needs to be extended”
Reviewed 2 August 2010

My wife and I did a two week tour of several cities in Minnesota, including Grand Marais, Duluth & Hibbing. We were up there to escape the Florida heat and didn't really know what we were going to do, but turned out to have a really great vacation. Please see my other posts regarding lodging, meals, etc. if you are interested in a similar trip.

We were looking forward to the 'Lakewalk', but left a little bit disappointed. Plenty nice enough for walking or jogging, but that's probably it. Part of the trail was closed, but right now it's only 4.5 miles long end to end, so it's not of much use for riding or skating unless you're really slow.

Nice enough to check out, but stick w/ the Munger or Gitchee Gumee trails for riding, skating, etc.

My family stays in Duluth 2-3 times per year. We always stay at a hotel located on Canal Park Drive (which is where the Lakewalk is located) due to their extremely close proximity to the Lakewalk.

Picture this...a beautiful view of Lake Superior, stark sunsets, and gorgeous sunrises. The sound of waves lapping against age-old bolders as you quietly walk around the lake. Sailboats, swimmers, seagulls, seagoing vessels 1,000 feet long or larger. Lighthouses and foghorns on foggy nights. Horse-drawn carriage rides.

Ahhh...the Lakewalk.
