My daughter and I were visiting St. Olaf's College. This is an authentic non-chain place to stay. The hotel is lovely. It had a turn of the century feel, and is well taken care of. The rooms could use a fridge.

Room Tip: Get a room with a street view.

Thank you for your review. We appreciate guest feedback to optimize guest experience. We are in the process of updating our guest rooms and in so looking at providing most rooms with a mini fridge. While we are in transition, we are more than happy to accommodate this need by utilizing a refrigerator we have located at the front desk, which guests can have access to 24/7. We hope your St. Olaf visit was fantastic and your daughter had a wonderful stay.

Enjoyed music in the downstairs bar, the restaurant in the basement was excellent and busy -- seems like a favorite for locals, not just for hotel guests. Walk around downtown, the river, checked out Carleton and St. Olaf campuses -- all wonderful. What a great town to go to college or live in!

I have mixed feelings about this place. Pros-nice location, historic details, cute shop in lobby, nice bedding, nice bathroom, nice staff. Cons-rugs in terrible shape, dinged up furniture, sleeper sofa looked like a rummage sale purchase (we did not open it up), uncomfortable bed. It seems as if the hotel might be doing some renovations...hopefully it's a cool building but is in dire need of a rehab. The rates were expensive for the condition of our room.

Normally I stay in Holiday Inn Express properties. Wasn't one near and found a neat little downtown area so I decided to stay in the Archer House on the river and historic Northfield. Was pleasantly surprised! Great room (except for no iron), clean, comfortable (especially the bed) and great on-property restaurant options and tavern. Definitely worth it!
