Can't wait for our annual trip to BugBee in August. This will be our 14th year. It is a great place with excellent cabins and great family activities. The cabins are very spacious. We take over 5 of them and it gives our family plenty of room. It is a highlight for our entire family.
Six of us stayed 2 nights for a girls weekend mid-September. We've been doing this for 20+ years but the place we use to go to closed. So we needed a new place, had someone recommend BugBee Resort and decided to give it a try.
What a great place. The cabins are clean and have everything you will need. It was a little chilly and we had to ask for the furnace to be turned on. The owner came right away and took care of that and the cabin warmed up quickly. The main lodge has a nice indoor hot tub and swimming pool which we enjoyed. This would be a great place to bring a family and I'd love to go back in the summer. The only negative which is hardly worth mentioning is the water had a very strong smell. We think this is because it probably hadn't been run in a while since we were there in low season. The smell became less over time. We've already booked for next year. Love this place and highly recommend it!
- We've gone to Bug-Bee's on and off for years. Our family (currently ages 13 to 79) rent ~3 units. We've even been to BugBees when we had infants. No matter the age...everyone has fun.
- As for the facilities...the cabins are beautiful and grounds well kept. We've had fans that didn't work (they replaced them), outboard motor problems (exchanged), and others. Every time we have gone to the management, it has gotten fixed that day.
- Other "service"...I've changed cabin reservations more times than I can count due to OUR inability to pin people down as to whether they are joining the group that year or not. BugBees work with us...never give me a hard time even after 3 or 4 changes.
- We take the family other places...Leech Lake, Green Lake, and North Carolina Outter Banks to name a few...but we still come back to BugBees.
We love the fishing on Lake Koronis and like the fact that not many people seem to know about it. It's a nice trip for a weekend as it's only 90min from the Twin Cities. I was pleasantly surprised at how contemporary and clean the rooms were - while still log cabin style, they aren't completely stuck in the 1960s like other resorts in northern MN. The service was good although it would have been nice to know there was a wedding reception in the main lodge while we were there, because there was a live band playing. I was also surprised at the cost of the pontoon rental - $50 an hour seems a bit much, and I wouldn't recommend coming here if noisy kids running around bother you. Besides that though, we were happy and would stay again although this time probably not in the main lodge as we'd like less noise next time.
We highly recommend Bug Bee Hive Resort- it is a resort for any age!! We started vacationing here in 1998, before kids, and have had two daughters since! They love it at Bug Bee as much as we do. They talk all year long about our next vacation there! They and we have made such great, lifelong friends, that return to Bug Bee the same week as us each yr. We cannot say enough good things about the owners, Paul and Kella Bugbee, and the Mgr Lori. They would bend over backwards to help us. The cabins are remodeled and updated frequently. We stay on the "first tier' -closest to the lake. Thanks Bug Bee Hive for making such great memories for us!
