This great old building was built in 1889 and is either the second or third oldest courthouse in Minnesota. It's the only courthouse I know that has lots of stained glass windows throughout. (I guess that's because Winona, Minnesota, is known as the stained glass capital of the world with nearly a dozen companies in town specializing in making or repairing stained glass all over the world.) This courthouse has lots of neat architectural fixtures on the outside of the building, beautiful woodwork throughout and some neat "hidden" stairways. I was fortunate to get a tour that included the judge's back stairs, the vaults, and the top of the tower which is abandoned and empty except for a few dead birds.
