We chose to visit the Jefferson Davis house because my husband loves history. I was so impressed with the tour. I grew up in California and never learned about the confederate side of the civil war. I was amazed at the dedication and conviction of this group. That they had a president and first family. All the wonderful things this family did for their veterans and families. We visited on Memorial Day and I was so disappointed the lack of honor shown. No flags on graves. No celebration of these veterans. However, I felt this was worth the price of admission, especially if you love history. Our 17 y.o daughter, loved it. 12 y.o son, not so much. Lol.

Having been to presidential homes like Mount Vernon and Andrew Jackson's house, I felt that Beauvoir was somewhat disappointing. The home itself was interesting, but I felt that our tour guide was a bit unusual and took too long in the narrative before allowing us to enter the home. Photographs are permitted inside the home. There were numerous outbuildings and items to see over the 54 acres; however, the day we were there they refused to rent the golf carts ($10/each), for exploration. Apparently, if its more than 50% chance of rain at the beginning of the day, even if its not raining, they won't rent them. I would recommend going on a full sun day to get the most out of your stop.

Enjoyed the tour. Lots to see. The tour of the house was very informative. Great history review. Artifacts in the museum very great as well.

More than supporting either side of the Civil War, visiting Beauvoir and the adjacent Jefferson Davis Presidential Library is a way of teaching future generations about different points of view and, most importantly, reflect upon the human costs of the Civil War and how the United States were shaped by it. Both sites are impeccably maintained and are definitely worth a visit. In my opinion, this is by far the main (and arguably the only) reason to visit Biloxi.

This was an excellent tour by a very knowledgeable docent. The home hasn't been modernized or updated like many historical homes of the era. Well with the stop and visit to the museum next door.
