Well we came to this place one lunchtime for coffee and thought it looked really cosy for an evening meal so we decided to book for a couple of nights later.
Then we read the reviews on ttripadvisor and thought perhaps we should cancel, thankfully we didn’t we have just returned from a great evening at this restaurant,
The waiter was brilliant being very funny, friendly, informative and helpful.
True the wine we had chosen was not available but he suggested an alternative but he was concerned that it was a few euros more expensive we assured him this was ok, the wine was lovely and worth every cent. Also one of our party wanted the red tuna steak which also was not available, again the waiter was apologetic and took great pain to explain that the tuna available from therir fish supplier was too large, and as the restaurant only serve fresh fish. It was too large for him to buy.
So my party ended ordering :-
Wild boar, which was beautifully tender and a very good size portion
Sea bass which again was delicious
And salmon also delicious
The starters of prawns and avocado were huge and very tasty.
We didn’t have desserts due to all being stuffed but opted instead for port and coffee.
When the bill arrived we were pleasantly surprised to find we had not been charged any extra for the more expensive wine and he had even given some of the order free of charge.
In all we had a really good night here being served/entertained by a very good waiter and receiving very good quality food.
All at a not unreasonable price.

We were among very few visitors to Salema in the last week of November, and by the end of the week, only one of the ten or so restaurants in the village was still open. Fortunately, it was the Bistro Central, where we knew from long experience that we would be well looked-after by the inimitable Paulo, as well as being well-fed. I had grilled Dourada (golden bream) while my wife had a steak. It was a very cold evening by Algarvian standards, and we were in the covered-in area outside the restaurant proper, so it could have been a chilly experience, especially when one of the heaters ran out of gas. But Paolo was quickly to the rescue, and we were soon as warm as toast again. There is nothing particularly special about either the menu or the cooking. It is familiar, Algarvian restaurant fare: excellent fish soup, grilled fish or chicken, lamb chops, steaks etc, and always nicely cooked. Earlier in the week we had had the set lunch, which is decent value at 9.50 euros for two courses (usually soup followed by either grilled salmon or chicken). That was a particularly busy lunchtime, as it was a sunny day, and the Bistro was only of only two restaurants open, but Paolo coped with admirable good humour, and we minded a bit of a wait not at all, sitting outside in the warm sunshine. The house wine was excellent!

Absolutely unacceptable. Taking our order reeking of alcohol, music also too loud. After he brought our drinks I went to ask him to put the music a bit lower, he was drinking. We paid for our drinks and left. Disgusting. Never again.

This place is in a great position right in the centre of the village. It also gets the best afternoon sun. After reading the poor reviews we didn't expect much but actually the evening meal food, I had steak, was OK and the service quite freindly. However, the drinks service in the afternoon is a different matter - we asked if there was a drinks list and were told there wasn't one. Our drinks did arrive, though my wife's Coke was warm. We watched others wait so long to be served they gave up and moved to the bar next door! A lost opportunity, this could be a great bar.

Such a fabulous place to eat, It is positioned in the centre of Salema and you can relax and watch the world go by. We ate there one evening last week whilst on holiday and it was faultless. I highly recommend ordering the white sangria, it’s delicious but be warned very strong! Will definitely book a table when visiting the area again.
