We visited again this time for a special birthday dinner. Warmly welcomed and even though the restaurant wasn't busy (had been packed lunchtime before the race meeting started at the DR Race Course) there was a lovely intimate atmosphere. Seated at a big table (hate wee tables, we like to spread ourselves well out!) looking directly over the golf course. Wine served immediately and we settled in for the longhaul. Had spoken with Chef Will Crawford when booking and he was happy to do something special for us. What a meal he created.
Taster demi-tasse of homemade leek and potato soup. Break. Mixed sharing starter of chorizo and goats cheese on warm Italian bread, deep fried whitebait with a spicy tomato and vodka salsa, and our fav..a posh mini fry done Chef Will style. Slivers of tattie scone, soda bread, crispy smoked bacon in maple syrup and poached egg lightly coated in breadcrumbs and deep fried. Hallelujah! 10 minute break and a dander surveying the golf course and to take a photo of the amazing sunset! Ready for the main course. Bring it on! This was preceeded by lime and mango (?) sorbet with frozen red grapes on the side..a definite palate cleanser.
A grand ribeye steak and an even grander fillet steak, garnished with mushroom, tomato, onion rings and dressed salad, accompanied with a side of roasted carrots, parsnips, broccoli and green beans, bucket of chunky chips and a lip-smacking hot pepper sauce! Actually feeling really guilty now I've written this all down about the amount of food we were served, however not guilty enough not to eat it all! The steaks were delicious, tender and juicy and cooked perfectly to our taste. Good honest food, great local produce, cooked and served to a really high standard. A superb meal.
On completion of our meal our waiter asked if we required anything else, however a forklift truck wasn't available to extract us from our table! But - we did manage a Calypso Coffee and a liquer each, just to 'treat' ourselves! Many thanks to all the staff and a super special thank you to Chef Will Crawford for an amazing dinner, a culinary delight and a wonderful evening.

First time at Bar Bistro and certainly won't be the last.My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Thursday Steak Special. All was cooked to perfection with generous size portions. The service was efficient and friendly. A meal enjoyed in a chilled and relaxing atmosphere.

A party of friends including myself recently dined in Bar Bistro and our general opinion was that it was nothing special and if it was to be marked as a school report, it would state 'Must do better'. Two of the main course dishes that we choose were the Southern Fried Chicken Goujons and the Herb Crusted Salmon.

Firstly, the chicken goujons were overcooked or re-cooked, their appearance was a medium brown coating instead of a golden coloured coating with a thick and overcooked texture. Almost like battered sausages in a take-away which had been dropped back into the fryer again when ordered.

Secondly the salmon dish should surely have been served with a reasonable accompaniment of garden vegetables which it most certainly did not. The salmon itself was nice but due to the lack of vegetables the overall dish was bland and disappointing.

Overall, the visit was disappointing, no better than your average pub grub and questionable value for money.
