This was an up-to-date, comfortable castle compared to the dwellings where most of the St. Antony's inhabitants lived in the 1920's. The rooms were large, bright and furnished with beautiful period furniture.

Back in the 1920's it was called the Castle on the hill.

This was one of the attractions we heard about so we had to stop and see it when we arrived here in St. Anthony. Dr. Grenfell did so much for this area and it is evident by the recognition they have given him here. This is well worth your time to see.

I was mislead by the Grenfell Properties sign. Silly me! I thought it was advertising properties. I quickly realized my mistake. The Grenfell Historic Properties interprets the life and the times of Dr Grenfell. It is cleverly done through a gallery of displays and presents locally crafted products. We viewed a display of ceramic murals that depicted the culture and the history of this wonderful province. (Hint: located at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital!)
Be sure to see the Grenfell House Museum. It is a restored house of Grenfell family. This man did a lot for this area of Newfoundland.

We were running short on time so came to see the house first. What a well maintained property. The history and the documentation are very well done.

Grenfell cottage in St. Anthony is a beautifully restored house that Dr. Grenfell and his family lived in. A lot of the items located inside are original as this is a living museum. You can get up close and get a good look at many of the letters and awards given to Dr. Grenfell, as well as a lot of family heirlooms. Some of these include a picture signed by the Wright Brothers, letters from Theodore Roosevelt, and picture where he attended a garden party with Queen Elizabeth and King George VI. There are so many wonderful artifacts located in the house. Take your time and enjoy them.

There is also a hugh wooden porch surrounding the house with lots of trees. On a warm summer day, what a great place it would have been to hang out.

If in town, I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND stopping by and checking out the house.
