This park is expansive and very beautiful. A great walk and respite to nature in the city. When you need a break from the bustle of city life, pop down for a little walk amongst the green. There are a number of paths to wander, beautiful flowers and spaces to catch your breath.
On a nice day, this is the place to be. A small/medium size park - there is a path around the outside that is a little over a mile. With small lake, playground, tennis courts, a shelter and some tables for cookouts plus lots of park for picnics, frisbee, hammocks and more, you can't help but enjoy yourself! There is also a beautiful Rose Garden where you are likely to see wedding photos being taken on sunny spring/summer days. Safe and family friendly. Plus right down the street from The Plaza!
Great place for walking...a walking trail goes around the park with a diverse walk going around the pond, wooded area, field, rose garden and with very nice older homes bordering the park...awesome rose garden for walking and pictures and a very popular place for weddings...the open field area is used to play ball & frisbee, picnic, sun bath, and to walk dogs...there are tennis courts and a play ground for children....during the summer there is a splash pool for kids...the area was a civil war battlefield and though long gone was Kansas City's first Country Club/golf course....the park is very close to the plaza and a short drive to Brookside, Westport, the Crossroads art district, and even downtown. The park is great for all seasons...the flowers are beautiful spring - fall....the leaves are great in the fall...for those who enjoy the outdoors in the winter, the park is open with chances to cross country sky and ice skate if the pond is frozen over (must bring your own equipment)
The rose garden is beautiful. Nice park to walk around, or spend your lunch hour. We took family pictures in rose garden and by the water fountains.
I only had to walk about half amile to the opening site of the Battle of Westport (1864). The park is very nice in and of itself but it has many connections to Missouri's past including the Osage Indians and the Battle of Westport, a last ditch effort to reopen the war in the West. Markers and a Parrott gun can be found at the top of the hill in the part. Another section of the battlefield can be found in another part of KC (we did not have time to go there). Nice walking paths and ponds, with local wildlife.
Nice and well kept. Perfect for walking. Quiet and clean. All the roses are labeled. Must be amazing in spring. Well... Go there!
