This hotel had been recommended to us as part of our Wyoming/Montana excursion.
I am sorry to say that we were disappointed. Our travel agent apparently had booked us a grand queen room, but we ended up in a standard queen room. Even as a standard queen the quality was not up to what one expects. No coffee machine, fridge, bottled water, nor safe. The mattress on the bed had collapsed. Only one bedside table with lamp and a very noisy air conditioning unit in the next room.
The reception staff were not used to adverse comments. After such a build up by our friends, it was a disappointment
What a shame.
On a positive note, they have free parking and the restaurant staff are very friendly.

Room Tip: Check the quality of the mattress!

We recently stayed at the Pollard after having made reservations months earlier. When we got to the hotel we needed an accessible room due to an accident. The hotel was full but the young lady and gentlemen (wish I had their names) working the front desk had to do major changing to accommodate us. They were so patience and kind! The hotel is not new but is full of character. It is just what you would expect in the wonderful town of Red Lodge. The breakfast was the best we had on our entire trip! We hope to visit Red Lodge again and will definitely stay at The Pollard.

The exterior of the hotel looks great and the location is awesome, but the inside hasn't been updated forever. Rooms are small and bed lumpy even though we had a "premium" room. Hotel staff at front desk are in dire need of training in the art of hospitality. Breakfast was good--perhaps the best part of our experience. Doubt we'd choose to stay here again.

We stayed here one night specifically for the purpose of being able to drive through the Beartooth Pass the next day. We had a king suite with a balcony that overlooked an inside sitting area of the hotel. Nice room and amenities. We chose to have dinner in the saloon/bar area rather than their dining room. Food and service very good. Breakfast was included in our rate. Excellent. The town itself seemed to close up early so even though we walked around it the stores were already closed.

The Pollard is one of those classic, old hotels (built in 1893) that has had new life breathed into it by a massive renovation in the 1990s. It's great to see grand hotels from a bygone age restored and succeeding all these years later.

Check-in was easy. If you have a car, they give you a note to place on your dash that lets local law enforcement know it's OK if your car is there more than two hours. Parking is street parking nearby, and a very small lot (maybe two?) behind the hotel, sort of off an alley off the side street.

There is an elevator (the building is three stories tall), but the stairs are fine and, being an older building, the stairs are quite prominent. We used the stairs when we could.

Our room was the "standard queen," which was fine. As others have commented, it was not spacious, but it wasn't crowded in any way. There was plenty of room to put suitcases on the floor next to the wall and still get to the bed easily. The closet was fine for an overnight. The bed itself was very nice, although the pillows seemed in need of improvement.

The bathroom was the one drawback; it was small. Sure, there was a sink, a toilet, a shower/bath. But the vanity was barely big enough for the sink and a toothbrush, much less a shaving kit or something like that. And the ceiling was low. I'm 5'10", and it wasn't hard for me to touch the ceiling tiles.

The shower was fine. And by that, I mean that the water came out of the showerhead in a nice manner. It wasn't so concentrated that it hurt; it wasn't so gentle that it wouldn't wash soap off. The one shower complaint (other than that low ceiling), was that both my wife and I experienced the, um, "joy" of a nice shower interrupted without warning by ice cold water for a short time, and then back to warm. And then back to ice cold again. This happened twice to me, in an average-length shower. We did report this to the front desk clerk on check-out. She apologized, but couldn't give an explanation for it. (I suppose that's better; it means it may have been an anomaly.)

We were a little worried about sleep because, while it had been a long travel day for us, the band in the pub was just getting warmed up when we retired. And the band was LOUD. But we didn't hear much at all in our room, so, good job!

The rates were fine, and our experience was good. We recommend the Pollard for a step back in time and a good night's sleep.

Room Tip: Ask for a room far from the Pub if you have keen hearing and want to avoid noise from the entertainment.
