Average hotel at best, paid $50/night but would have been happy to pay a little more for added convenience . Longish check-in process. Intermittent sleep in my first room due to mechanical noise and paper thin walls to an adjoining room. Requested room change and found the hotel staff were very accommodating. Second room that did not feature adjoining rooms and was much more comfortable.

Hotel is located miles from the Strip or Downtown in a seedy looking area. Tried the monorail (not recommended unless you like lots of walking) but finally settled for the bus to get around.

I stayed at the Stratosphere in October 2010. The hotel itself is OK. The rooms were fine, although we didn't get our room cleaned until maybe 2-3 pm on one day (even if we always left the hotel around 8am). Beds & pillows were clean and comfy. We were on a non-smoking floor, which was great because I would notice some weird smells on some floors (and in the casino). Carpet was very old... But we always got good sleep because the Stratosphere is not a 'party hotel' with lots of noise during the night. That's definitely a plus.

We ate at two of the Stratosphere restaurants (Roxy Diners & Fellini) and both were good for the prices. Getting on the tower is pretty impressive (and free), even during the day. Check-in was a breeze and everyone was nice to us. Pool looked nice too, although I didn't use it. The view was impressive from there!

Now the location is just awful. It's really far from the 'good part' of the Strip. We didn't feel like catching the bus (slow and full most of the time), so we walked A LOT. Honestly, even if it was cheap, I could have gotten a better located hotel for an additional $10/night. I would suggest paying a few more bucks and stay somewhere closer to the Strip. Next time, I'll stay somewhere else.

My husband and I decided to come to Vegas a day early and didn't have a hotel booked for this night so we tried our chances with Stratosphere and were pleasantly surprised. I was a little apprehensive, however, upon check-in I requested a room with one king bed instead of two doubles and they upgraded us without any additional charge to the Presidents Suite. The Suite was HUGE. Had a full kitchen, large dining area with table, living area with Flatscreen, large wet bar w/ sink and full size fridge, large king bed which had nice linens and another flatscreen in the bed area. The bathroom was off of the foyer and had a garden tub. Nice value for 40 dollars! Unfortunately, we got in around 11 pm and checked out the next day to go to our hotel, Bellagio, so we didn't really explore any other part of the hotel. We did, however, order room service around 12:30 am and the food was yummy. I personally prefer more up to date / upscale rooms. However, if it wasn't for that, I'd stay here in a heartbeat. If you're on a budget and want a clean room with friendly staff, stay here. Location is so-so. At the far end of the strip. Would need a car to get to the main areas (ie: Bellagio, Venetian, etc.).

I stayed at the Stratosphere from October 8-10 for a brief weekend getaway. I've stayed at this hotel before and selected it specifically for the cost--you will get excellent accommodations for a fantastic price, no matter which site you book through. The beds are extremely comfortable with lots of soft pillows and bedding. The rooms are spacious--we stayed in a standard room with a double bed. The only downsides to the room would be that the bathroom is very tight--the door nearly misses the toilet when opened. Hopefully, nobody will be barging in on you because your legs might get chopped clean off. Also, there are very few channels on the television--I suppose they assume that everyone visiting Vegas will be out partying or exploring and generally reveling in the sights...not expecting any high quality channel line up. Regardless, the best part of staying at the hotel is the complimentary access to the tower. The observation tower has the most amazing view of Las Vegas and is really an excellent sight. In addition, many people will love the thrill rides on the top, as well as a new attraction called SKY JUMP. I watched several people dive off the top of the Stratosphere in amazement--they also have a channel on the television dedicated to these daredevils. Go figure--no HBO but you can watch people jump anytime of the day.

Regarding the hotel's physical location, being at the very end of the strip makes it difficult to get to where the real action is. There are also no real convenient stores in that area--we had a hard time finding a CVS and ended up in a desolate area well beyond the strip in search of a bottle of lotion. Just hop a bus or taxi (if you did not rent a car) and head on down to the area near the Palazzo/Wynn/Encore--there is a mall called the Fashion Show there just a ton of other options. Within walking distance from that area are several other restaurants (including Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville) and attractions (Madam Tussaud's). On the opposite side of the strip is the Mandalay Bay which is amazing in itself. We went there to watch the Lion King--one of the most amazing shows I have ever had the pleasure of seeing.

Regarding the food, Fellini's Italian Restaurant is PHENOMENAL. It is located right next to the World Towers II and has the most amazing food. I had to get the chocolate mousse cake every day of my stay--and one to take back to the room. Also, the C bar right in the lobby has unlimited drinks at happy hour from 5 pm-9 pm. For $20, you get a wristband and can drink until your heart's content. It a nice and spacious open bar area with plenty of seating and lots of people ready to have fun (perhaps one too many drinks will do that).

There is an outlet mall approximately 5-7 minutes away from the Stratosphere and that was also enjoyable. There were fantastic deals! The downside was that a whole day should have been dedicated to such an extensive mall--there was no way to even hit a quarter of the shops in the 3-4 hours we allotted.

Overall, Las Vegas is an excellent destination. The shows, food, shopping and hotels are all top notch and this was no exception. Despite the minor drawbacks, I enjoyed every minute of my stay and would return in a heartbeat. I would also stay at the Stratosphere for a third time--and save my money to go see Circ du Soleil this time!

We stayed at the hotel as it was the host hotel for a Racquetball tournament where we were participating. Our room was always clean and the staff courteous. We asked for a smoking room and even so, it DID NOT smell of musty smoke. We don't know what they did, but it did not smell even though we smoke in the room.

Didn't have time to gamble due to the tight schedule for playing racquetball, but it seems like a great place.
