Ranco San Rafael Park is well done and laid-out. It is a beautiful park area for visitors, for walking about in the gardens, and a great place to see a bit of Nevada history. The Wilbur D. May Center often has great exhibits and informative displays.

I visited the botanical garden which has a very large collection of oak trees and many paths good for walking. The dry landscape garden is large and gives a good idea of what plants grow well in this climate. Nearby is the wonderful Willard May Museum.

The Reno Sports Complex at Rancho San Rafael. ....needs improvement to hold senior softball events. After playing in the fields the last few days, it's a dust bowl, they never watered the fields or even lined. Also getting down the steps and up with bat bags, equipment, chairs etc., is a challenge. My suggestion is to make improvements, like a switch back ramp next to stairs to help with entry and exit. Also field maintenance on fields between games. The restrooms had no towels and hand blowers did not work. It's really not an accessible - friendly Senior Softball park.

My daughter and I come here to walk the dog. They have a large off leash park for dogs to just be the doofs they are. Be aware that there are some creeks on the property, so if you come bring a towel. The gates aren't closed off like many dog parks, but I have never seen a runner. The dogs have acres of free range off leash. You will get exercise while there.
