I was surprised how quiet and serene this park is. There are trails running throughout with a wonderful view of Downtown Reno and the Sierra Nevada mountains beyond. The park was a quite large and never crowded - except during the annual balloon races --
The bathrooms are clean and easily accessed. There is a spacious dog park adjacent to the walking section of the park. The parking is adequate. I have not seen homeless people or scary individuals on the four times I have visited. This may be due to the proximity to residential areas as well as good patrolling of the area by park security. It's a great place to learn about various flora and fauna. A wonderful place to have a picnic without being bothered by others' noise, music, etc.

The Hot Air Balloon Races are an annual must-see in Reno. Always held on the 1st weekend after Labor Day. 90-100 balloons with events beginning at 3 AM! Mass ascension at 7 AM. Bring your patience because the traffic to the park is horrendous but it's worth it in the end. Close-in parking is $10 but street parking is free.

Visited this beautiful park for the Balloon Races. What a great place! Tucked amid neighborhoods and near the University, it was great for the event. I am sure it is also a great place for the whole community.

We visited again Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. This time we visited the picnic areas, the arboretum, and the labyrinth garden. We did not visit this type the May Museum, which is one of my favorite museums in Reno.

Overall, the park is very nice.
