My wife and I had a wonderful time at the Tall Timber Lodge. It was recommended to us by a co-worker friend of mine. We went up during the weekend to see some moose and view the fall foliage. It was raining, so we didn't see any moose, but the foliage was fantastic! We stayed in one of the White Birch apartments and my wife (who is a bit of a neat-freak) kept telling me how impressed she was by how clean everything was. I have to agree with her, it was very clean and quite cozy! The staff are very friendly as well. My only regret was that we could only stay for one night. We definitely plan on returning next year for a longer stay!

We have never been dissapointed in anyway with the accomadations, the staff, or the car hunt for moose. The moose don't always appear, however the hunt is amazing. The scenery is grand. We always stay in the lodge and everyone including other guest are all friendly. We have met the most interesting people to chat with during our stays. It is so relaxing and laid back..LOVE IT!

Room Tip: We like a private bath so we choose room 6 in the lodge. refrigerator, microwave, great tv and roomy. Outside the door is the cozy sitting area with real coffee yu can make anytime you want.

My husband and I found out about the TTL from a friend who was at the Tall Timber Lodge in their Cast for Recovery program for breast cancer survivors.
We have stayed at the TTL three times and this place is like heaven on earth! The Bess is a beautiful house right on Back Lake. The staff at the TTL treats you as if you are part of the family. I can’t wait to go back in June.
The day we were leaving my husband said “I don’t want to leave”

My wife and I are both from NH, and I lived just a few miles from Pittsburg (in Colebrook) for many years, but never stayed there. Now that we have moved away we return every few years to visit relatives and friends. This year our two grown daughters and their husbands wanted to take a trip back to NH with their kids (two 3 year olds and one 18 mos old) so we settled on Tall Timber.

First, the staff there was incredibly responsive to all our e-mails with questions as we planned this trip. They were also very accomodating on schedules since we were coordinating arrival times with folks coming from both VA and CO to meet up in Pittsburg. We wanted to have our entire party in one cabin so with 6 adults and 3 kids our choices were limited. The largest cabin was not available so we ended up at Angler's Cove.

Angler's Cove is located 1.6 miles from the main Tall Timber lodge and Rainbow Grill, basically across Back Lake from those facilities, on a dead end gravel road (Hawes Rd). It sits right on the water, has parking for at least 2 vehicles in front of the cabin and more on the road. The cabin has its own boat dock and we were also provided with a small motorboat (6 HP Yamaha motor) that was included in the price of the cabin and it was there when we arrived. We used the boat and it worked fine - started easily and was easy to operate. It holds 4 folks and they provided life preservers.

There are only 2 bedrooms in the cabin. The master bedroom is on the main floor with a jacuzzi tub that sits right in front of a large picture window overlooking the lake. The master bathroom has an area with 2 separate sinks and then a separate section with the toilet and shower. There is a large walk in closet, a TV, a queen bed and a twin bed. Upstairs is another small bedroom with a full and twin bed and a bathroom with a shower stall. With our group of 6 adults and 3 young kids the bedroom set up just meant my wife and I had the sleeper sofa in the common area.

The main floor has a well equipped kitchen with full refrigerator, gas stove, glasses, plates, mugs, bowls, silverware, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, pots/pans, diswasher, etc. Paper towels, dish detgergent and dishwasher materials were all provided. There is a large stone fireplace (gas) in the living room, a dining room table with 6 chairs and a counter that butts up to the kitchen sink/counter with 4 stools. There is a large flat screen HDTV with cable and a sleeper sofa and regular sofa in the living room, along with a rocking chair. There is also a radio/CD and DVD player in the living room (be advised that radio stations in this neck of the woods are limited!). Off the kitchen is a half bath where the washer and dryer are also located. The "stairs" are made of sawn logs, narrow and have no railing so you need to be aware of that if you have small kids.

The side of the cabin that faces the lake has a regular door that opens onto the covered deck, and two sliding glass doors that open onto the uncovered portion of the deck. The covered deck has 4 chairs and a nice weber gas grill (which was nice and clean - did not not find a steel spatula for use on the burgers however - just plastic ones). The igniter on the grill was broken but there was a Bic grill lighter in the cabin to use. The uncovered portion of the deck had a small plastic table with 4 comfortable chairs. Stairs lead from the deck down to the boat dock.

There are ducks in the lake and they are more than happy to eat bread the kids may want to feed them. They came right up onto the deck from the lake on several occassions. There was a red squirrel who would come up on the deck to eat peanuts, and even eat out of your hand if you are patient and care to do that. There are also loons on the lake and there is really nothing like listening to their unique call, especially early in the morning or at night, through the open windows of the cabin.

Tall Timber is a great place if you are looking to experience camp style lodging for some quiet time in northern NH and enjoy nature - especially in the Fall with the foliage. Be advised there is really no cell phone coverage and while the lodge says it has wireless, don't expect much. There are lots of outdoors oriented activities like hiking, fishing, canoeing/kayaking, looking for wildlife, etc. The Rainbow Grill is excellent (see separate review).

I'd highly recommend Tall Timber and was very impressed with both facilities and staff.

Well we found our home away from home at Tall Timber Lodge! We started out going once a year and now we go in the spring and in the fall the last few years. We always stay in the lakeside cabins which are so cozy and warm and extremely clean, you can cook inside or outside and there is a fire pit for camp fires too! We do the Rainbow Grill Package which includes lodging and breakfast and dinner each day. The food is always excellent and big portions, lets just say you are stuffed and need to walk when you are done, dessert is to go for sure! My husband loves going out on their motor boats to fish on Back Lake! It is so peaceful here and everyone that works here is so pleasant all the time. They have it all here, you never really have to leave till you go home!! Looking forward to visiting again for our 7th year in a row, thinking of the wintertime as we have heard they have the best snowmobiling trails and they have snowmobile packages too.

Room Tip: "Cabins by the lake have beautiful views, especially at sunset!"
