Went over President's Week as we were looking for a few days away with the kids. Stayed at the Grand Cascades Lodge. The prices were jacked up as to be expected, to $800 a night for a one bedroom suite. The hotel itself presents very grand upon entry. The exterior is majestic as portrayed in the photos. That's pretty much where it ends. The room looked nice upon entry - seemingly clean updated. The refrigerator had finger prints all over and the kitchen supplies were scarce and not the cleanest. The resort offers some activities for kids, but the majority of them are a la carte. There is a $20 fee per half hour to climb the rock wall, $29 per bear to build a bear, and I believe a $30 fee to march across the plastic Glice rink. My kids did enjoy the pool and the off site snowtubing. The fun came that night, however, when turning down the bed. Our suite offered a king size bed which the kids would be occupying. I turned down the bed for them, which was absolutely rock hard, and there under the sheets was not one, not two, but many different types of hair. I was repulsed. I proceeded to strip the bed. I usually always bring a set of sheets with me when traveling, just in case. When I got to the mattress cover, no surprise, more hair! I took a wet towel and tried cleaning it as best I could. I laid my clean sheets down and tried to strip the comforter off the bed that was encased in sheets. That too, covered in hair. There was so much hair that my son actually asked if someone got a haircut in the bed. I then went to the closet and found the spare blanket. You guessed it, more hair. I had never in my life seen anything like this. I am used to traveling extensively for work. And on occasion, it does happen where there is a stray hair somewhere, but nothing to the likes of this. I did not want to be bothered with housekeeping but at this point I was irate. I called the front desk and explained my situation. The gentleman at the desk did offer to have the sheets changed but after what I had witnessed, there was no way I was sleeping in their sheets. I merely asked for a clean blanket to put on top of the bed. Housekeeping came fairly quickly and handed off the blanket. When I opened up the blanket to put it on the bed, it was covered in 3 large stains. I was absolutely disgusted. I had packed 4 large bath towels and those were our blankets for the night. I then moved on the living area which housed a pull out couch. I told my husband to not even bother opening it. He attempted, regardless, to open the couch. And there across the back of the cushion and the interior of the couch were two big red streaks. I am unsure exactly what they were and I wasn't going to find out. He quickly closed the bed back up and I laid another of my sheets across the top with another towel. Needless to say, no one slept that night. My husband doesn't like to cause a scene so he pleaded with me not to say anything. I also didn't want to upset the kids. If it were just he and I, I would've demanded a refund and left immediately. So after spending close to 2K to stay at this place for 2 nights, we ended up making a trip to Walmart so I could purchase proper bedding. No one had slept the night before and we were all cranky and irritable. The next night, we attended the dinner and a show event. We had made the reservation upon arrival but were hesitant after the hair incident. My husband called the front desk and the manager told him that if we were a "no show" we would be billed, so we had to make a decision. We decided to move forward, again, to not upset the kids. Dinner was supposed to be an Italian buffet. For $50 a person, you received your choice of some meatballs, a giant trough of pasta with oil, a cheese platter, some rubber chicken fingers and mac and cheese. There were some other trivial items not worth mentioning. Needless to say, we were hungry when we left. The room was awkward and over lit and only at about 1/3 capacity. So not so sure what the cancelation billing threat was about. It looked like a wedding hall which wasn't in use that day. Needless to say, I would never ever go back to this place. They obviously can't handle the size of the hotel and cut corners wherever they can. I am just angry that I spent my hard earned money here, and all I can say was I have some new travel sheets to show for it. There are plenty of other places that are less expensive and much cleaner than this. Don't waste your money or your time.
