The reason we booked this hotel was because of the location and the fact they except dogs. As soon as we checked in, they started adding “fees” for parking, etc. We were not happy with the room. Has a Bates Motel feel. Everything is old and grungy. There were no sheets on the bed. Bathroom was the size of a coat closet. And dirty! Tub/shower leaked a steady stream our entire stay. There were long black hairs stuck all over the tile. We had to go to Walmart to get sheets, a comforter, and cleaning supplies. After making the bed and scrubbing the bathroom, I felt better. Room has a microwave & mini fridge. Had to clean those too. There was supposed to be a table & chairs in the room, but there wasn’t. WiFi was a complete joke. TV got 5 channels. The best part of the room was the air conditioner. It actually kept the room cool. I do not recommend!

We stayed here in July and was vary disappointed. The only thing that is good about this place is the location. We were given a room that was located directly under a stairway so this was our view. Rooms need to be cleaner. While there, a housekeeper got a major shock when her vacuum cleaner cord caught fire. She even had dark spots on her hands from the shock. I mentioned this because this is an example of the poor equipment and upkeep of this motel. They even tried to overcharge us. I would not recommend this motel to anyone.

Room tip: go to another motel

We were looking for a pet friendly motel. We loved the location - one block off the boardwalk. We enjoyed the breakfast vouchers for a nearby restaurant. Got take out and sat on the deck. The decor was fun - the outside had neon lights, and the inside had colorful spreads and black and white floor tiles.

The hotel manager accommodated our extra car, upgraded our room, and gave us the lowdown on a great dinner restaurant.

The bathrooms were small, the stairs up to second floor could be difficult for someone with limited mobility. Overall, though, we thought we got great value and enjoyed our stay.

This was our first vacation with a dog (a little 13-pounder) and we were fortunate to find the Monaco Motel. Not only is it doggie approved, it is Doo Wop approved (as advertised)! I especially loved the deep purple accents on the building, and the artificial palm trees added to the kitsch.

Our room was on the 2nd floor, which was perfect since there was a lounging area right outside. (The downstairs rooms are located around the parking area.) We so appreciated the tiled floor as opposed to carpeting; so much cleaner, especially when dealing with sand from the beach. Our room had 2 double beds. Unfortunately, they were a tad small for both of us to sleep in one bed (and we are average-sized people) so we wound up each using one bed.

The bathroom was challenging size-wise, but it was clean and well stocked. I would have preferred more pressure coming from the shower head, but it got the job done. We appreciated having a microwave and dorm refrigerator in the room since we did not plan on a week of boardwalk food! Also in the room were a few hangers, a large chest of drawers, an occasional chair with footstool, and a side table between the beds.

The motel is located about 8 blocks or so from the dog beach, so if you plan to take your pet, be prepared to have a bit of a hike. Having said that, it's a great way to work off the boardwalk fries and ice cream!

The staff was most accommodating; Len, the manager, was so friendly and took a photo of Bailey (our dog) for their scrapbook before we left. The housekeeping staff was attentive as well.

Overall, our stay was very pleasant and we definitely recommend it.

Staying at the Monaco is one of my highlights for NJ Jeep Beach Invasion. My wife and I have stayed there 4 years now and the rooms are always clean, the location is ideal, and the staff is always a pleasure to talk too. I always look forward to going back.

Room tip: All the rooms that I have stayed in were very similar in comfort.
