What a great place! We stayed in the “Master Bedroom.” It is a wonderful, large room with a true ocean view. This was our re-entry into diving after a 10 year hiatus. The dives were all Superb, whether “muck” with lots of critters, or the Liberty Wreck, or reefs. Each diver (or pair) is matched with a Dive Guide. They go to great lengths to point everything out, and attend to all of your equipment needs. The hosts (in our case Pedro and Nina) were so genuine and caring. The food was out of this world. JUST PERFECT. We will be back…

An incredible experience, from the staff, details of the room, villa its self and spa, it was all was just paradise! Our stay was more luxurious than we could have imagined! The rooms are spacious very private and built with love with great attention to detail! We were transferred with ease back and forth to the airport and we felt totally relaxed being in their hands!

The diving and dive staff were very good, spoke good English and the dive instructor was very passionate and knowledgeable. Diving there ticked off several new hit list species for us and their eco friendly approach to everything is just right! Food was a perfect mix between local and western food, it was truly delicious!

I would suggest staying here highly, me and my wife will return again and next time for a longer stay!

A big thank you to all the staff and owners for making an incredible memory!

Wonderful boutique resort, outstanding service and excellent diving among other things make Villa Markisa a true five star resort. The whole operation works like a Swiss cuckoo clock, appropriately enough given the German and Swiss German owners. Our villa was perfect - plenty of space, very well equipped (even with a rinse tank for dive gear), a lovely terrace with sea view in addition to a pretty small garden with shower etc. and everything properly finished and maintained. The only blemish, which is I suspect an island/Indonesian issue, relates to communications problems particularly it seemed later in the evening, when both internet and phone connections tended to fall over during our stay. The grounds are lovely and kept in great condition on an eco basis where possible (no fogging but avoidance of stagnant water and use of fish in ponds). The meals are varied and tasty with a communal dining room which makes for a convivial atmosphere especially at dinner, all the more so if you have gathered at the small bar by the dive shop beforehand. The staff understands the concept of hospitality and is also very flexible - we missed breakfast one morning but were still able to have it after our first dive. And the diving ? Excellent. A lot of muck diving with plenty to see but also some reef/coral outcrops and a couple of encrusted wrecks nearby. Pelagics, a least when we visited, were in short supply. The dives are mainly from one of the two comfortable boats and the groups are small with very capable dive guides - ours, Eddy, stayed with us for the whole four days and was tremendous in finding the smallest and cutest critters (if you struggle to see some of the really miniscule creatures just give your dive guide a size limit). There is a little exercise before and after each outing as you swim to/from the boat, which is not far from the shore and the staff take your main equipment so you only have to worry about cameras etc., and maybe mask and fins if you are not going out on the same boat the next time around. Our night dive on the house reef with reasonably heavy surf was interesting but Eddy sensibly suggested leaving our gear on one of the anchored boats for pick up the next day which made exit much easier. The dive shop/rinse area is well organised and there is a good reference library of dive books as well as a wealth of knowledge from the hosts, Christiane and Pedro. All in all we had a brilliant time and would happily repeat.

We love the diving here, but never much liked the resorts. Poor food, mediocre accommodations, until we stayed at Villa Markisa. The attention to detail at the hotel, the dining, and the dive operation is robust and serious, and the result is a resort that excels in all. We stayed in the beautiful Master Bedroom and loved the dawn view from the balcony, where I wrote up my dive log while relaxing on the daybed. We were impressed with the hands-on attention from co-owner Christiane Waldrich, who had clearly thought hard about how to best run the dive operation, the kitchen, source the food, and make the hotel comfortable. This is--finally--a great resort in a great dive area. Can't say enough good about it!

Room Tip: We loved the Master Bedroom's light and high ceilings.

The rooms and grounds are beautiful. I love that we all dine together at one, large table. The food is always very good and varied. For non-divers or just relaxing, there's an infinity pool, lots of lounge chairs in shade and sun, and a spa. Most people I know go for the diving while in Bali. It is some of the best critter diving in Indonesia. The guides are very good and find all the special stuff. The boat drivers are very experienced.
