Huge old hacienda built in 1804. 21 rooms and 2 large courtyards. Many interesting artifacts are displayed, and the guide for the self-guided tour is helpful in understanding the place.

This is a self guided tour. We really enjoyed seeing "life" from the past. Easy to walk, but not wheel chair accessible. It does not take you long to do this, highly recommend as a Taos activity.

La Hacienda De Los Martinez is not well publicized, but it is a gem! It is not to be missed when vacationing in Taos. This old great house was built in 1804, and you can walk into the different rooms and see history come alive, no less the courtyards are beautiful. The house and land are very well preserved, and when we visited, there was a lovely and very informative lady who loved to spin yarn. I highly recommend this site!

We recently visited Taos and Santa Fe. We stopped here and almost didn't go in. Nobody else was there except for a couple of staff. The lady at the desk and the "weaver" could not have been more friendly. This site gives you a great feel for how a wealthy landowner would have lived. You can easily tour the whole thing in an hour or less. I highly recommend stopping if you have time.

I've been to Taos several times, but never to Hacienda Martinez - going here created a new awe of, respect for, and thirst to know more of New Mexico history. Quite amazing.
