We reserved the McVittie room at the Big Tree Inn and it was superb. The decor of the room and the inn as a whole was as one would expect from a mansion originally built in 1833 as the home of a banker. The attention to detail was impeccable. A cold front rolled in the night we were there and we enjoyed the gas fireplace and cuddling up in the warm robes provided by the inn. The staff members who checked us in and out were friendly and efficient. The restaurant was closed on Sunday but we had a delightful continental breakfast Monday morning, with several choices of Danish, muffins, other breads, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, cereal, juices, and coffee. Our stay here enhanced our visit to the northeast.
