As there are a limited number of restaurants on La Digue, we thought we'd try out this one, in the most upmarket hotel on the island, as a change from our own hotel. We made the booking by phone and decided to cycle there (grasping a torch!) as its a flat run along past the jetty from La Digue Island Lodge, and they have a cycle stand out the front.
Le Combava is just through the hotel foyer and to the left, has inside seating and outside seating facing the pool, and looks very classy. It was very quiet and lacked a bit of ambiance, with only another couple of tables dining that Monday eve, perhaps because of the cost, but we went there to treat ourselves.
The menu was wonderful - so may dishes to tempt us, but we ended up opting for a lobster starter and a seafood broth starter, followed by a prawn dish and a fish dish. We received a complementary smoked salmon amuse bouche to start, with breads, and each course was exquisitely presented and tasted wonderful. We also shared a lovely chocolate dessert.
Service was attentive and courteous. Our meal cost over £100 but we did splash out with lobster and big prawns. Wine price wasn't excessive - it is generally pricey throughout the islands and here it was on a par with other restaurants in the Seychelles.
We would recommend this restaurant for a special occasion, if budget permits.
The hotel itself looked lovely with great facilities, trendy design and furniture and nice pool, but it does lack a proper beach.
