very disappointing! terrible dorms. no drinking water, no food, no security! had to move to another place. paid for five nights in full, we are still waiting for half of the refund! :( ........................................................................
We travelled here in August 2012 and had such a great experience. When talking to the new manageress she said she had taken over and from the old reviews I think she has really made a good difference because our trip was great. Great location and our room was basically right on the beach. The food was great and one night they did a huge fish barbecue, but when I said I didn't like fish the manageress made sure some chicken was put on for me. She was very attentive and kind and we would definitely go back.
The Beach VIllage is beautifully located right on the beach with lovely bungalows that have their own verandas. The best part of this accommodation was the warm atmosphere generated by the manager and staff who were extremely helpful and went above and beyond the typical duties you would expect to ensure we had a comfortable, relaxing stay in Vilanculos. The manager was also well connected with other businesses in the area so she was able to recommend and organise activities for us. I would highly recommend this place to anyone planning to visit Vilanculos.
Based on other reviews and their website, our expectations were high but we were bitterly dissapointed in the Village, particularly as it is a new development. On first arriving we were happy enough - the pool and bar overlook the beach and it's a great location to while away a few hours. That said, as the only guests there that evening, we ended up going to the backpackers up the beach for drinks and dinner.
The rooms are expensive and not good value for money. The mattress was way too soft and sunk in the middle. The mosquito net had large holes all through it and we hardly slept. The bathroom was poorly finished (broken tiles, broken toilet seat) and the shower was just a trickle.
Suffice to say that after one night here, we cut our losses and moved to a beautiful lodge on the other side of town. We shared our reasons for leaving with the person in charge at the time, although he was just looking after the place for a week or so. Not sure if it's improved since our stay, but in considering we bqsed our decusion to stay here partly on reviews on this site, I would suggest others do their research prior to booking here.
Four of us stayed for 5 nights in March and it was perfect. Chalets are great, location was amazing, free wifi, pool was an absolute bonus and Clare and Quentin who were managing it were so helpful. Short walk to the market, slightly longer to the banks but tuk tuks were super cheap if needed or late at night. Bar was well stocked, food was good and staff were all great. Still a few things to iron out, not enought chairs around the pool, showers not great but all small facts that definately didn't take away from our stay. Definately recommended.
