We came here to get away for a couple of nights. I surprised my husband for his birthday. Left the kiddies home...Took the tour this morning. I believe our guides name was Laura and she was a wealth of information. I could've listened to her for another hour. Pick up the book in the check in office.
We had dinner with relatives last night, that did not stay the night but we had a great time. The staff is friendly, and courteous. What a meal! Delicious. Salmon was amazing as was everyone else's meal. We were the last people there and the staff did not rush us at all. We spoke with the owner Gary Melius briefly last night. He made us feel at home right away.
I recommend this home away from home for a short stay, or a large wedding. What a beautiful building. The restoration is gorgeous with a great deal of detail. So much more I could say but this review would be miles long.

We went for the afternoon mansion and lunch tour and it was wonderful. The group that day was quite large so fortunately it was divided in two and I think we got the better of the tour guides (Laura?). There is a great deal of history behind the creation, maintenance, rescue and now the restoration of this fabulous structure. So much so, that the tour, with more interactive features, could easily be 2 hours, but as it was, the tour was about an hour and a half and most engaging. The grounds are absolutely spectacular, usually seen only in the European palaces or the mansions in Newport, RI., and it is abundantly clear that the owner, Gary, has put tremendous efforts (and money!!) into not only paying homage to the lifestyles of the rich and famous back in the 1920's, but also in creating an up to date beautiful setting for weddings, special events, hotel stays (if you can afford it!) and even, almost-daily tours. My wife and I have gone on many many tours, here in the US and overseas, and this ranks up there, if not for the overwhelming fixtures and finishes (there are no original artifacts from the Otto Kahn days) of more family-intact mansions, but more so in the compelling story of how, on earth, it still exists, given the odds against it. It's only because it couldn't (fire-proof), that the building wasn't burned to the ground. A remarkable story that can be fleshed out to provide a real sense of living during those days, with that much money. The lunch part of the tour, with a pre fixe selection of an appetizer (soup or salad) and entree (I think 4-5 choices, all seemingly good), and cookies with coffee or tea. There are also the regular ala carte lunch (and/or dinner) menus. The Italian chicken soup was filled with chicken pieces and delicious. We chose the chicken/avocado/mozzarella sandwich on ciabatta bread, and the crab cake on greens and they did not disappoint. The service was very attentive and the portions generous. It's a lovely setting for a nice, leisurely lunch (or probably dinner) among the 'hoi polloi' of the Gold Coast of Long Island. And if you are really lucky, you will get to meet and speak with Gary, the owner of the joint, who apparently enjoys engaging with the diners in the dining room.

Been to a wedding and several meetings. The food is good. The entrance to the building and the interior stair cases are grand. The current owner was shot in the head and survived adding to its mystique. Otto Kahn the original owner was trying to out do the Vanderbilts.

Attended a private corporate dinner party. The wait staff was on point through out. The hors d'oeuvres were delicious and varied. The dinner was a little run of the mill and underwhelming. The filet mignon was good. The house pinot noir was nice and light. The building was impressive in scale, but just because it is called a castle some embellishments are needed in the public areas. The library was musty; the bar was filled with some fun history of Oheka; the Charlie Chaplin room was fun filled. The property is well groomed and gave the desired feel of old world and gold coast style.

I thoroughly recommend people going for a grounds tour or a night/s stay at the Oheka Castle. I have been to a few Business meeting at Oheka and would never miss an opportunity to visit!!!! The owner has done a fantastic job of restoring a very unique and special hotel and dining destination. Each room is unique and has been assembled with materials from around the world. You can also go online to Oheka and review the professional photos online. This place is truly "the real deal".
Some day soon I hope to have dinner there, but the piggy bank is currently a little low with 2 kids in College :)
