We are always on the look out for a close to home camping spots in and around Western New York to visit with our Airstream trailer to have quick but satisfying trips. Evangola completely fit the bill. About a half an hour out of downtown Buffalo, this quaint state park right on Lake Erie has a beautiful beach and woods. We booked it last minute and when there were only a couple spots left I figured we would get a less than stellar site. Not the case at all. Instead we pulled in to find wonderfully wooded, spacious spot that had a lake view and hidden trail down to the beach. The overall maintenance and upkeep was outstanding and the large comfort station nearest us - that includes big showers and a laundry area - has to be new within the last year or two. It all sparkled. No water/sewer at the sites but not a big deal for us. We've stayed at our share of county and state campgrounds and this one is a cut above. Very affordable too. Look forward to coming back in the summer for some real beach weather.
Recommended by a friend, we went to see the frozen waves on Lake Erie. They were covered in snow and looked like little snow mounds. We were able to walk through the deep snow and out to the waves. Once we were there we were able to walk on them. The view was nothing like I had seen before. It was remarkable to think that we were walking on Lake Erie! The park was so peaceful and still with the deep snow and only a few people there. It was a bright sunny day and we enjoyed the walk in the stillness of the park.
We stayed Labor day weekend for three nights in the first inner loop (forgot exact spot). Spaces were spacious! behind our site there was open green space that terminated at the road- plenty of space for my husband and his friends to throw the football. A small playground was a close walk that my 2,6 and 8 year old enjoyed. There were two very clean bathrooms not that close to our site, which was inconvenient a little, but they were spotless.
We were able to follow a trail and walk to the beach, we also enjoyed taking our bikes the long way. But on days we had a lot of things, we ended up driving. There is a small concession stand for pizza, ice cream, pop, etc on the beach. We all enjoyed just relaxing and walking the shores for sea glass. On our second last day we visited the nature center, used some sporting equipment, and took a guided tour through the camp. Overall, I enjoyed this park and we are planning to come next year.
Great location. Midway between Buffalo and Dunkirk and right on the lake. Good beach and high bluffs over looking the very reachable beach. Very nice and clean restrooms and a good grill at each site and lots of tables and shelters. We came early/mid season so I don't know what it would be like at the end of the season. We have had lots of family reunions here and have always have had a positive experience. I would recommend this site for people from the Buffalo area as it is not too far. About 30 minute drive from Buffalo.
We visited the Evangola State Park and stayed for 2 nights at a yurt, August 2014. Stayed in a yurt for the first time. It was an amazing experience. The park was located just a 5 minute walk from the beach. Spent a couple of hours at the beach, barbecued and chilled out. Extremely clean wash rooms and a great place to wash your cooking utensils and dishes. The yurt had a fridge and microwave, along with bunk beds.
A must see if you love the outdoors.
Not far from Buffalo, nice alternate to Southern Ontario Camping. Decided to cross over on Friday before the Civic Long Weekend Holiday, took 1.5hrs at the Peach Bridge at around noon. In the future will target an earlier time, not sure why it was so busy. Return time at the border lasted only 10 minutes on the Monday. Anyway, park is well kept, nice sites, unfortunately ReserveAmerica does not provide pictures of the sites so we picked one at random. In the future recommend any number greater than 42 in Loop 2 area which will provide more shade than lower numbers. Nice beach area, great for families with small children, life guard will make sure you stay in the designated swimming area. Plenty of Food Shopping nearby so no need to stop by at the Walmart on route.
