Just spent 3 nights at Evangola State Park - in the non electric tent area. We had a great time, sites are close, and just about every site had it's max of 2 tents but it was a family friendly environment, bathrooms, showers and laundry facility were impressively clean all weekend even though it was Memorial Day Weekend and all sites were sold out. The proximity to the beach is great, and the firewood is reasonably priced. Good place to take kids to get them outdoors.
Evangola State Park was our first camping experience. What a beautiful place! I'm so glad this was our maiden voyage. It's very well kept. We didn't use the facilities, but popped our head in and it was clean. The park is pretty quiet, we liked that. Sites are bigger with plenty of lawn space-some shaded and some full sun. Water views are gorgeous. Sunsets are unbelievable. The beach is awesome! Our favorite thing to do is walk to the water in the morning. Can't wait to get back!
While the park is beautiful during any season, there appears to be no enforcement by the park police officer regarding unleashed dogs. In fact, the park officer seems to turn a blind eye to the dog owners who permit their family pets to run about the park unleashed as well as defecate on the premises without picking it up. This is upsetting to other dog walkers and park goers who come to enjoy the wonderful surroundings. While the majority of pet owners do follow the rules, park police should be doing their job rather than sitting in the park office or in their vehicle looking the other way.
We arrived at the park with our 25 foot trailer after dark hoping to begin a short getaway weekend along Lake Erie; and after a long week at work! As we arrived, we were greeted by a gorgeous full moon and 2 very friendly campers who were very willing to help us place the trailer safely. There was an all girls' party down the lane but they did observe the quiet time when it came due.
This park consists of acres and acres of green space. It is situated right on Lake Erie; we could hear the waves throughout the night. There are some trails one can follow or just relax on the beach. Public access to the beach is somewhat of a trek from the campsite but well worth it once we saw how open and green the picnic area was. We had our older boys with us and for them it seemed like a sedate park but there is a well-equipped playground for younger children. This is partly the reason why we chose to come for a shorter stay; a whole week would have been too long. Comfort stations were clean, paper was always available and a new, much larger station was built to accommodate life challenging mobility issues. We will come again, even just to enjoy the most colourful sunsets!
The park is beautiful with many different types of trees. There are pathways to walk or bike on and a beautiful beach to enjoy the lake. You can just sit back on a bench and enjoy the sunset or take your dog for a walk through the park. There is a playground for children to enjoy and many picnic areas. If you come after 5pm you get in for free.
I like abandoned places, and this place was kind of up my alley. The parts of the park that were in use were well kept, but it looks like the park used to have a lot more visitors than nowadays. There are huge overgrown parking lots, and the bath house is also much bigger than what is in use today. The beach was ok but kind of rocky.
