We returned to the town of Kerhonkson this year after first spending a week in the same rented home last year. It is a nice town and a good place to explore Ulster County.

May we explain that we fly in from the U. K. each year.

Now although this area has some quite fancy restaurants....and we have dined at most of them....the Rough Cut became our absolute favourite to go to most evenings last year and this.

In our week we dined here 4 times. And each evening was a delight. The Chef here is clearly skilled and well trained because whatever you order from the kitchen, steaks, mussels, fish, salads etc, everything that comes out is freshly made and delicious.

Add in a great atmosphere as this place seems to be used mostly by local people. A pretty good sign we think ! Most of the beers served here are craft beers brewed by the owners in the small distillery at the back. They are good....and strong ! Especially the German wheat based beer that was my favourite each evening.

May we finally add that we are a pair of retired Oldies from England and we were warmly welcomed each evening by Jesse, one of the owners and beautifully served by Luther who was very kind and attentive and clearly one of the World's nice guys. Thankyou Luther !

This is our second review of the Rough Cut in 2 years and I will just repeat what I stated last year. Do not judge this place from the outside. It looks fine but it is easy to just drive straight past thinking this is just some ordinary American roadside pub. It is much much more than that and the owners deserve alot of success in opening this place.

From what we saw on our 4 nights dining and drinking here, it's going well as most evenings it was completely full and buzzing !

So we now move on to a week in Cape Cod where we hope the restaurants we dine in there serve food as delicious and the service provided is as good as our evenings spent at the Rough Cut.

We plan to return to the same rented home next year so we will be back here to enjoy or evenings again.

Worth a stop when in the New Paltz area! Excellent craft beer, nice dining menu and a suitably cabin-like setting convenient to all the recreation in Minnewaska.

What can I say? How many places can you go where you drink a brew and then when you eat the taste and spices in the food compliments the taste of the brew? Not too many but this place achieved just that. They brew several different types of beer, I only tasted two the Pomme L'Orange, and The George, both were outstanding. We started with an appetizer and ordered the calamari and they prepare a dipping sauce with sriracha that is just WOW. My husband ordered their 16 oz. NY Strip and it was cooked to perfection just as he asked, and my skirt steak was perfect. I highly recommend it, it's very laid back, the place looks like an old log cabin/shack but it's actually very cozy and nice. Looking forward to going again.
