Seems like everytime I go to TripAdvisor for restaurant info, it is usually Italian, Mexican or Burgers. So, was I surprised to see The Cellar listed. To eat their food is another story....wonderful. My husband had the Schnitzel, and it was simply wonderful. I had the pastrami salmon and can't find the word to explain how well done it was. The sides were great compliments to the meat. I left with 3 business cards and passed them to folks who visit Lake Placid on a regular basis and they were very surprised to know German food is available and delicious.

I was there a few weeks back with friends and loved the food; I knew had to bring my german born mother there when she came to visit.

The French onion soup was wonderful. Full of flavor and not watery like most. The german potato salad appetizer is enough for a meal alone. It's a good thing it wraps up for take out well. The bacon and vinegar are in the right quantities and the arugula mellows out the bite. The schnitzel is made to german perfection. Thin but not dry and again, large portioned. My mother couldn't stop raving about the beet salad, it was uniquely prepared.

The staff is friendly but needs polish. The decor is not yet finished as bare wires show but the place has wonderful potential. They should really focus on the german theme in their appearance and work with that more. The prices are high but the portions are large so that helps.

Overall, the place is a culinary gem with a spectacular view. Thank you for bringing some of my childhood in to Lake Placid.

This little gem is a little away from Main St but not too far away. It has plenty of parking. The space seems to be recently renovated with a great porch. The German inspired cuisine was fantastic. The portions were really big. The crab cakes were raved about. They had 2 schnitzels on the menu. One was served with Swiss chard! The entire dish was perfectly cooked. I had the bratwurst - it was juicy and covered in beautifully caramelized onions. It was a great dinner with friends.

My family, extended and I celebrated a special occasion for brunch this past Sunday. It was wonderful and a hidden gem. Plenty of parking, gorgeous views and the food was delicious!
