So this is our 5th stay at the Buttermilk and I am giving it a five (even though I felt it was a 4 star stay) because I know they can get these few things right that really need attention.
First all the wonderful things, Breakfast - the food is fresh and very well presented and delicious, with some very creative options like Chive Oil omelet and poached egg salad. The check-in team was very kind and the room was ready early which was great.
Now a couple of items that need work, we stayed in Riverknoll Downs which is a 2 bedroom / 1 bath accommodation with a large deck overlooking the Hudson. It is lovely, however it needs some attention to detail, simple details like hooks for the robes in the bathroom, a full length mirror, ice cube trays (we had to go up to the inn for a bucket of ice (which was enormous). There was no cutting board or larger knife in the kitchenette so making a cheese platter and the like was a little clunky. The greenery needs a little taming as it is really taking over the river view.

Riverknoll House and Riverknoll downs have beautiful river views, Birch House is great for a multi couple getaway as bedrooms all have ensuite bath, Gindelle suite is lovely and recently renovated, rooms in the inn will have slightly less noise from the train.

All in all, this is a favorite, rustic and peaceful and does really allow you to unwind. The spa is great (facials are really good) and the light and incredibly fresh boxed lunches just perfect after a treatment. I wouldn't hesitate to go back....

Room tip: Riverknoll House and Downs- magnificent views of the river, Rooms in the inn have somwhat less noise from the train

My husband (new as of 4/29) and I stayed at the Inn 4/30-5/2 for a brief honeymoon and can't say enough what a wonderful time we had. We enjoyed dinner two nights in a row at Henry's and it was delicious both nights. Breakfast was amazing both mornings and so was tea time, we did not want to leave! We both got massages at the spa which was so relaxing! We stayed in the Juniper room and it was just perfect, exactly what we wanted in a little honeymoon. Thank you so much for providing us with such a perfect stay.

We did not have a car, we took the MetroNorth to Poughkeepsie and then an 10 minute Uber ride to the Inn. There was enough to do on the property we didn't feel we needed to travel out. The animals were the selling point for us when we booked but when we arrived everything is just PERFECT! We are telling all of our friends and family to go visit Buttermilk Falls Inn and hope that we can return in the future!!

It's enchanting. It's sublime. It's magical. It's romantic. It's breath taking. It is what you dream about when wanting to be transpoted to a inner peaceful connection with nature. I'm so glad that my son choose this magical surrounding for his wedding...

Went with my daughter on her spring break -- she had school work to do but needed to get away from the stress of senior year in college. Even though she worked a few hours/day she left Buttermilk completely relaxed and rejeuvenated. We had a treatment a day -- massage, facial, wrap -- visited the adorable llamas and beautiful peacocks, enjoyed the ducks and bucolic scenery. Breakfast and high tea, included with the room, featured wonderful homemade pastries and fresh eggs. Dinner at Henry's, on the property, was excellent. We stayed in the Grindel Cottage, a modern, beautifully decorated unit, which included a cozy living room with fireplace, large bedroom with fireplace and flat screen TV, sun room, which could be turned into a second private bedroom at night, and full kitchen. We hated to leave and can't wait to go back.

Room tip: Room in the inn look perfect for couples. The cottages are great for families or groups of friends.

We have been doing a “spa crawl” for years and checking out all of the best in the Hudson Valley. We were excited about Buttermilk but we ALL felt disappointed and won’t go back. Arrived and we felt a little rushed and brought into a small room to change in front of each other. No other spa does that. Weird. Also we had to share a locker even though it was a slow day. they had a table in the lobby of nice tea/kind bars...but No coffee. Walking across the parking lot with your robe and being in a separate building for a pedi ...nah. Hanging in the building without your friends was lame...when we asked if wine or champagne would be available for lunch we were told yes. But when lunch arrived the girl poked her head in the pool area and yelled out our name and handed out cardboard boxes with plastic forks like it was the meal on the plane. We had to push tables together and go get our own plastic cups of water. It was like they did us a favor.. Services were ok. Facial was a lot of fancy layers of lotion and felt just OK. Freezing cold in all of the rooms even pool area. the massage was more of a lotion application...I worked up the nerve to ask if she could use a little more pressure (which I have never done EVER) and was told “that’s 10.00 more “. Then I felt like I insulted her and she didn’t seem to care if I was relaxed. Pedi was nothing special..a bucket and basic chair...the girl was sweet and did a good job but it was in the separate building without your friends and it was cold, almost too quiet and awkward. The positives are the grounds and views were nice. The option for pool, sauna and steam room were also very nice. Not worth the price though and overall we just did not feel like it was a special day of pampering like the other spas do. It felt more like a self service. Spa! We are not complainers so if you are reading this please know we acted like everything was fine.

Sorry Buttermilk - you are on the bottom of our list and we probably won’t be back.
