This place is fantastic, white sand, blue indian ocean view and palms, a good place for a romantic getaway! The warm welcom from a friendly staff makes you feel special. Food is good, with variaty enough for a longer stay than we did. The seafood they serve is fresh from the ocean and the portion is large!
If you have forgotten to bring a book to read when you relax under the palmtrees, you can borrow one from the reception, the selection includes other languages beside english as well.
We enjoed the full day deep sea fishing and snorkeling at the Mnemba atoll, beautyfull tripp and exciting, we didn't make the big catch, but we did sea both the Barracuda and Tuna breaking the surface. Even got a brief encounter with some dolphins
Rooms were ok, without ac, but the wind was enough to keep it cool during nigthtime.
A good place.

It was great to have the opportunity to go back to Pongwe for the second time in less than 12 months. Just 16 bungalows, serviced by Heidi and her staff of 68(!) means that this paradise location is matched by excellent and friendly service and great food, wine and cocktails. All we wanted to do was watch the tide come in and out - viewing from our room, our terrace, the infinity pool, the bar or the beach - or pretend to be beachcombers scouring the extensive beach at low tide. Relevant only to the current electricity crisis on the island (which is hell for the islanders and now looks to continue until March 2010) Pongwe is fully self suffiicient with its own generators operating 24/7. Go on, spoil yourself too!

My wife and I came here for our 15th wedding anniversary, and we couldn't have been happier!

Although it was about an hour drive from the airport, it was well worth it. Their beach is magnificent. Not only that, but it is very private due to rock outcroppings that block off outsiders from walking onto their beach. This is great because it keeps those wanting to sell you things away (which you get a lot on the west side of the island) and allows you to truly relax.

The white sand and crystal clear waters was made even more enjoyable with the many hammocks that are scattered around their beach.

The food was terrific! Great sandwiches and snacks and a wonderful dinner with even better service.

We are American's living in East Africa so we have seen our share of the good and the bad. This is definitely way up on the "good" list.

Thank you, Pongwe for making our anniversary one to remember!

This place really is as beautiful as it looks. We were here after safari and it was exactly the relaxing place we needed. The food was wonderful, and we met 2 other couples that we met up with for Connect Four everynight for drinks before dinner (by that point into our honeymoon we were ready for some additional company!). Pongwe gives you flags so that when you are laying on hammocks on the beach they know if you want to order a drink. We found the staff extremely courteous. The rooms were more than adequate (nothing totally fancy, but it didn't seem to matter). I think we were in #12 or #13. I remember thinking that #16 would be cool - it's kind of on a point overlooking the ocean a little more (although we were right on the beach). I cannot go on enough about the food - it was so fresh and amazing. Definitely pay for the seafood dinner. I think we did it 3 nights of the 5 or 6 we were there! Overall, it was well worth the money, and the value cannot be beat. I would definitely stay there again.
