Went in with my family for a Friday night dinner. Had some good pino noir. The service was attentive. The food was a cut above. The menu was a bit limited but everyone was happy with their choices. The vegetarian ravioli was excellent.

We went to The Hideaway with another couple on a Sunday night. We were promptly seated in a room which was nicely restored. Seating was flexible - easily adjusted for groups. We ordered items from the bar. A Bloody Mary going for $10 better be pretty spectacular! It wasn't. We ordered specialty burgers which came with French fries. We asked about substitutes and selected soup which we were told would be subject to a slight extra charge. The cups of soup came and were barely warm. The sandwiches came with the fries! We were told go ahead and eat them even though we had substituted soup! The burgers had interesting toppings, but the meat was tasteless. The bill came and the slight extra charge was $3 per cup!! Needless to say we will not be returning to The Hideaway.

If you're looking for the honey atmosphere and comfort food of the old hogans, this is new iteration is not it. Most of the old park Ave decor is gone and the food is significantly more expensive and not terribly well done. Many other options around the city are better for the price.

We were eager to return to Hogan’s after the closure/renovations. We are long-time customers that drive in from out-of-town. The renovations are clean and trendy, the place looked good with this facelift. That is where our positive experience ended.

I ordered a martini. I was brought something cloudy in a coupe glass that was not a martini. We learned that our server, who mixed our drinks, didn’t know what a martini was and put triple-sec into gin. She re-mixed my drink with proper ingredients but brought it in the same glass so there was ‘scum’ on top (see photo) from the leftover triple-sec. Very unappetizing, and I could still taste the triple-sec. A martini is a simple and iconic cocktail. If you can’t make one you have no business mixing drinks.

Also, with the new renovation a bar and bar/social area with a real bartender is central to the dining room. Why was my server mixing drinks at all?

We were then told that they would not honor our $50 gift card because, “Our new machines can’t read them.” They offered to comp us an appetizer. That was a very expensive appetizer. Fair warning to the rest of you out there with gift cards!

They have re-invented themselves as exclusively farm-to-table, which is wonderful. They boast all ingredients being locally or NY sourced, also wonderful. But that means that many beloved items have been removed from their menu, and what is left is not the variety you're used to from Hogan's.

I ordered a pasta dish that was described as, “smokey tomato vodka sauce tossed with seasonal vegetables and basil.” What I received was indeed a pasta with a tasty vodka sauce. However, there were no visible vegetables, not even remnants of tomato as there often are with this sauce. Turns out the “seasonal vegetables” were hard chunks of rutabaga and sheets of kale (swiss chard?) Two flavorless and pretty unpleasant vegetables. (see photo) Rutabaga with pasta doesn’t feel like the abundant sounding “tossed with seasonal vegetables” I was promised. There are plenty of vegetables available in the fall beyond root veggies. Ask your server what you'll be getting so you won't be disappointed. I asked our server about the rutabaga. After checking with the kitchen she returned and told me it was “celler rat”. I’m sure she meant celeriac. No one seemed to understand the food they were preparing or serving. There was also NO basil anywhere in this dish.

My son ordered a cheeseburger, they brought him an Elk Burger. He was curious so he ate it rather than return it. He found the flavor interesting but the meat was dry.

At the end of our meal we were not offered coffee. We were not offered a desert menu, just our check, which was about $50 for two meh entrees and one cocktail. We will not be returning.

Brunch on a Sunday to top off a family weekend turned into a total disaster...arrived at 11, seated right away, and that's the only good thing to be said. Coffee took awhile, getting sugar/ creamer required several requests, seated for 20 min before they took our orders and after an hour and a half, no food on the table. Waiter was inattentive; when we asked to speak with the owner, it was 10 min before he showed up.... in the meantime food arrived, uncooked omlets that had to be returned to the kitchen, cold and congealed hollandaise sauce. We left hungry. ..terrible food, loud and noisy ambience and poor service. Nothing to recommend a return visit...unfortunate as this spot had been a favorite for some of our group under the previous owners.
