Door to our room very difficult to close all the way. Alerted chamber maids two different mornings of this and requested they shut door tightly when finished. Those two evenings when we returned the door was not sufficiently closed, leaving all of our valuables inside vulnerable to theft. Had to then alert the housekeeping manager and maintenance of this problem.

Special ordered scrambled eggs and home fries one morning. The food was awful, the eggs hard, like they'd been sitting a long time and merely zapped in the microwave. The potatoes were half-cooked, inedible. Informed the general mgr. who reversed the charge. The woman who took our order was nice, but clueless to the crap she was serving.

This Hilton was a level below what I expect from a Hilton property. Just didn't have that refinement and polish. Example, one of the lobby chairs had a spring sticking out of the bottom. None of the staff noticed this? Will try a different hotel when we return to Saratoga Springs.

My family and I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Saratoga this past weekend. It was the first time we've stayed at a HGI and the experience was a mostly a good one. It's in a good location, being so close to the national park. The hotel is fairly new, rooms are large, well-appointed and clean, and they have a nice set up of spa water (such a lovely touch), coffee and snacks in the lobby throughout the day for guests. Overall very friendly and welcoming while still being low-key.

A few improvements could go a long way towards making this place truly excellent:

1. Increase security. During horse racing season, you'll inevitably get some partiers, which is fine. What's important is to have hotel staff to make sure they are kept in check. Saturday morning my husband left our room around 7:00am and found a man passed out drunk in front of our doorway.

2. Establish shuttle service or campaign for a trolley stop. Parking around town and by the races can be challenging. Other hotels like the Holiday Inn and Homewood suites have shuttle service to take their guests to various spots in and around town. It's a big convenience and would go a long way towards making a better experience for guests.

3. Invest in other amenities like bikes for your guests. Other hotels in the area of the same class offer things like this. Being so close to the park, having bikes available for rent would be great.

We visited Saratoga for a concert we were attending at SPAC. We mainly selected this hotel because we wanted something that was within walking distance to SPAC. The hotel was nice. We stayed 2 nights and had a junior suite that was pretty spacious. After the first night we left the room early to join friends for breakfast and explore the town. We got back to our room late in the afternoon and our room hadn't been cleaned. It would have been nice if the pool was outdoors instead of indoors. It was a beautiful day and we would have enjoyed relaxing by the pool in the sun.

What a great hotel with friendly engaging staff willing to go out of their way to help. I ate dinner twice in the hotel and breakfast once. Food was very good. I forgot my phone charger at home. When I went to desk to see if they sold them. The woman said no but looked all around the desk and went into the office just to see if there was one left by another guest.

When we got back to the Hotel after a great day at the track the front desk girl was the only one there and was swamped. Elizabeth handled everyone in a first class way and juggled everything with a smile. She was almost running to meet everyone's requests as well as answer the phone.

She is a credit to the company and should be commended for her people skills. One group checking in were pretty demanding but she got it done. Put an "atta girl !" In her file !
