I have just returned from a 10 day visit to Baystone and I can only describe the whole experience as absolutely fantastic.
My wife and I opted for the Full Board offer and we were given a Junior Suite which was literally 30 paces from the Indian Ocean. The room was very modern and tastefully decorated, the food to die for and the friendliness of the Staff was delightful. It would be unfair to pick out a single staff member as they were more like a family. The Staff were a true credit to Jean Pierre the Baystones owner and were always happy and courteous.
I have to mention the quality of the food as it was superb every day. The menu offered something for everyone and Chef Franco and his team devised a daily dinner special, which we opted for every day and we were never disappointed.
The Baystone has 2 speed boats which are used for water skiing and excursions. There is also a water taxi service into Grand Bay on request. Baystone is located on the quieter west side of Grand Bay, so this proved useful. There are also bikes available for the energetic.
There is a full service Spa on site, offering a vast array of treatments. We used the Spa on several occasions and could not fault it.
In a nutshell, the Baystone in our opinion, ticked every box and we can't wait to return.

My husband and I stayed for a long weekend in august and loved every minute. The hotel is undergoing minor reservations. The view, hospitality, and food were the winners of the visit. Highly recommend.

We arrived at Baystone half way through our honeymoon due to a problem with the place we were initially staying. The staff were welcoming and made us feel right at home. The manager Isabel was fantastic and made us feel extremely special. Our deluxe room had a private balcony and stunning views of the bay. We stayed for 6 nights half board which I would highly recommend as the food is incredible. Whist we were unlucky with the weather the hotel has much to offer in the way of outdoor activities. Kayaking, paddle boarding and boat trips (including fishing trips) and just a short hop on the free boat shuttle to Grand Baie. We also took advantage of the spa and I would recommend the couples Turkish bath for relaxation. Make sure you borrow a bike and go to nearby Mont Choisy beach, more sheltered and turquoise waters and lots of lunch selection from the local vendors. We would definitely visit again - 5* service!

PROS:

Loved our room with a gorgeous sea view + good sized balcony; room was quite spacious and modern; staff were friendly, helpful and attentive; all our meals were included - something we usually avoid (see below); we enjoyed the food - particularly the palm heart salad with smoked fish + many other delicious dishes on the menu; the setting with the restaurant right on the beach is beautiful; they regularly had excellent musicians playing in the evening; the pool is heated which was good at this time of year (not cold but it did help to have the pool warmed up a bit); the boat service (about 10 min) to the large town was very pleasant particularly in the larger boat.

CONS:

This hotel is in a mostly residential area - affluent with many seaside mansions on the seaside of the street. We were told by a young man on reception that we could take a 20 min walk down the street to a nice beach. We walked for 30+ min and eventually turned back - no footpath + a few dogs roaming loose. We usually choose hotels where we can go for a nice walk in the surrounding area - maybe along the waterfront or to a small town or even just a cafe or two. However, to get to anything like that you need to use their boat service at set times during the day or take a taxi/hire a car. So we found that a bit disappointing.

TO SUM UP:

We're still glad we had a week at Baystone as it was very luxurious, relaxing + nice and warm! The weather was so pleasant (our hometown - Canberra - was having a cold winter). The boat service is good and the staff can organise some half or full day tours on request. We did 2 x tours (1 was a 1/2 day tour) with a driver - one to the gardens (more like an Arboretum...an interesting history) + a few other sites; and another to a tea plantation which included a small museum + cafe with tastings (quite a long drive...closer to airport). We had paid for lunch at the hotel so on our day tours the staff offered to pack a lunch for us - we appreciated that as our driver took us to a pleasant park with a view so that was a nice change from having lunch at the hotel.

Many thanks to all the lovely staff!

We booked this hotel purely on their review on Booking.com & Trip Advisor.

We throughly enjoyed our stay. Excellent food & well trained staff took care of us very well.

Slightly higher on price, but worth the personal service. Infact the Chef took care of our " Vegetarian " requirements.

Keep it up Baystone.

Room Tip: Sea facing/ Pool facing. If you can afford, book the suite on the top floor..... its fantastic.
