“I love lodges”
Reviewed 17 August 2011

We really enjoyed our stay at the Seneca Lodge. We're the kind of people who love old-school touristy stuff - log cabinish walls, giant fireplaces in restaurants, slightly kitschy decor. If you want a fancy place with a lot of amenties, then this place probably isn't for you. But if you want a place that's fun (and clean), then you'll like it.

We stayed in the motel portion of the Lodge, which was pretty standard motel stuff - a simple room with 2 beds and a TV. The cabins looked fun but we were afraid (based on a few things written on this site) that they would be noisy because they were near the highway. I'd say that wasn't likely to be a problem. It's true they were near the highway but it's a small country road with 2 lanes. Maybe we'll try it next time (and there will be a next time!). The A-frames looked good too but we didn't get a chance to see it up close. The motel rooms were simple but clean, so I'm guessing that's true of the cabins and A-frames too.

One of the main attractions of the motel is its proximity to Watkins Glen State Park - which is a pretty awesome place to go. The motel is actually located near the entrance of the park that's kind of in the middle (though closer to the beginning than the end). It's very easy to walk from the Lodge across the street to the park (down a somewhat long driveway, but not too bad).

Another benefit of staying at the hotel is that you are in close proximity to the restaurant, which has lots of great comfort-food type dishes. The breakfast sandwich I had was probably the best I ever tasted, and dinner was really good too.

It seems that the Lodge doesn't offer archery any more (I'm guessing their lawyers told them it was too much of a liability to allow guests access to weaponry), but there did seem to be a pool and tennis court. (We didn't have a chance to use either.)

The price we paid was pretty low ($75 per night I think) and would have been even lower in the cabins. There's free wi-fi, which worked fine, which is sometimes hard to find in a place like this.

Overall, a fun, homey place to go on the road.

My husband found this motel about five days before our trip to Niagara Falls. He wanted to break the trip into two 4 hour driving sections on the way up and to hike Watkins Glen with our daughter; this motel location was perfect. The pool at the park was an added bonus, they walked up there after dinner for a quick swim - no fee unless you want to park. The room was small but perfect for our family of three; it was clean and basic. The park was barely 1/4 up the road and we were able to explore for about two hours before we needed to be on our way. we sat on our chairs at dusk, watching deer and enjoying the rest. we also ate dinner at the restaurant and it was wonderful - good portions, nice salad bar, good wait staff. My husband went to the bar after our daughter's bedtime and they were also very nice there (even discovered a connection to Bucknell University, where we went to college).

Room Tip: plan ahead more if you want a cabin.

Seneca Lodge is a very pleasant place to stay and the location can't be beat for anyone desiring easy access to Watkins Glen State Park and the many attractions and sites in the area of Seneca Lake and nearby Cayuga Lake. For those interested in the race track (not us), it is only a few minutes' drive away. It is also easy to get to Corning, Ithaca, and other points of interest. We were a family of 4 (middle-aged parents with 2 grown sons, 22 and 17), and we were joined by another couple (family) part way into our stay. The lodge has ample parking and many trees, and is just outside the town, giving it a rustic feeling while being easily accessible to everything. It has a variety of cabins and rooms, and we took the largest that also offered a fully equipped kitchen (our preference is to cook most of our own meals) - room 19, a two-room suite with a deck in the motel section of the lodge. It was comfortable and clean. The larger bedroom has 2 queen beds in it, but no closet space, which meant that we were living out of our suitcases. The smaller bedroom has a bed and nighttable, but also no closet space. There is some hanging space in the hall. The lack of closets and the fact that the small bedroom has no air conditioner (the kitchen and large bedroom have air conditioners) were really the only drawbacks. Luckily, the weather was not especially hot. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the suite was cleaned and made up every day. It is a very short walk to the state park and its beautiful gorge, and a very short drive to the main roads that lead to the lake and to other sites of interest. We would certainly stay here again.

This was our second time coming back to the Lodge, we love it! You have your choice of a little cabin or a Motel room. The rooms are clean and good size and the price is fantastic. Can't beat the price.. The Lodge serves breakfast and dinner. The prices are reasonable, the portions are a good size and the food is delicious. With a bar attached. You are in walking distance of the gorge and the park. And all the Wineries! This could be a family vacation or just for two. The staff is great too...

This was my first trip to the finger lakes region and it was amazing.. 2nights at Seneca lodge.. Very good cottages..both ac and heat in the cottages..surrounded by trees and flowers..Watkins glen national park is walking distance which was an added advantage.. Very helpful and friendly staff.. We loved it :)
Even the restaurant is very good..Although it shuts at 9 but I went there with my sister around 8.45 and they happily welcomed us with a smile and let us stay till the time we wanted..the staff is extremely nice :)

Room Tip: Ask them for new cottages..!
