Our group of 7 (5 adults, 2 children) travelled with Christian and Azzurra for 2 days of wine tastings in Tuscany. Christian took us on day one from Florence to the Chianti Classico region, where we visited 3 wineries that were all absolutely amazing. Our last stop included a magnificent lunch, complete with a birthday cake for one of our travellers, which Christian picked up at a local bakery along the way!
After spending the night in Sienna, Azzurra picked us up for day two, where we toured the Brunello wine area - not to be missed!
The two days were absolutely perfect. We couldn't have asked for a better plan, or better tour guides! Thank you so much Christian and Azzurra!

Christian picked us up (two couples) at our B&B in Siena promptly at the designated time. The van was amply sized for our 6ft 4inch passenger without him feeling crunched in. The first stop was the Poderino Winery. Christian provided expert commentary along the way as to what we were seeing, the history of the area, and the particular regional distinctions that make the area what it is today. At the Poderino Winery, we enjoyed a thorough description of the wine making process from the soil that the grapes grow in to the specifications and quality criteria that have to be met for a wine to meet the Chianti Classico designation. Elena (the winery matriarch) had a wonderful assortment of foods prepared to pair with her winery's wines we would be tasting. It was a wonderful experience on a vineyard and winery that has been in the family for generations. As Christian pointed out, the soil conditions that make the region suited for grapes also make olives a good local crop. We enjoyed our first ever olive oil tasting,, yes there is a special glass and technique,,, ask Christian,, the olio was amazing. If you get your olive oil from the store,,,you have not tasted olive oil...
Our next stop was the Altiero winery. We met Paulo and his wife, had a delicious lunch prepared with local food paired the their wines we enjoyed. The location and the views were stunning,,,the wines excellent as well as the company...
The two wineries offered a contrast, Poderino Winery has been in the family for generations, Altiero is in it's first generation. Both exceeded out expectations as did Christian providing the history, explanations of the wine making process, answering our questions,, outstanding.
Christian went out of his way to even provided hand written directions from Siena to small towns south of Siena when we told him we were taking a driving tour through the country the next day. The directions were spot on. He also provided restaurant recommendations for several of the the towns we might stop in. The recommendation for Pienza was excellent, the recommendation for the local specialty was thoroughly enjoyed.
If you can book a trip through Viaggi d'Ambra,, you will be well rewarded with an experience that far exceeds your expectaions

Viaggi d'Ambra is a tour company owned by Azurra and Christian. They are remarkably knowledgeable and professional, and take all the guesswork out of your trip. You can relax and enjoy Italy with ease and confidence. Azurra arranged a two week itinerary that included four cites as well as the Tuscan countryside. In each city we were greeted and guided by an interesting and extremely well informed local person, selected and screened by Azurra, who facilitated our sightseeing and helped us avoid the tourist pitfalls. Each hotel selected by Viaggi d'Ambra was plush and comfortable, with all the amenities required by a demanding American, including a bountiful and delicious continental breakfast, and friendly, helpful staff..
We were met promptly each day as we followed our fascinating itinerary; but Azurra and Christian were always open to making changes, adjustments, or additions if we wanted to switch it up a bit. They were kind and gracious, their English impeccable, and their sense of humor delightful.
It is clear that this company does their research and goes out of its way to offer you the most pleasing Italian experience possible. I was extremely satisfied with the service, and highly recommend Viaggi d'Ambra.

The two young professional who own Viaggi d' Ambra were so wonderful. Their knowledge of the area was very complete. Our stop at a local small family owned Vineyard where we had a cooking class and wine tasting was one of the highlights of our trip. We were a group of 14 women, some of us had never been to Italy others had been several times, all agreed it was a memorable experience. The Hotels were all 4 star. Anyone going to Italy would be wise to use this company Pat K

It's hard to meet the travel requirements for a great group trip when you have a mix of seasoned travelers along with the" first timers", but Azzura and Christian do a phenomenal job of creating a programmed trip that meets all those needs. They really know their history, and can engage in conversation over everything from what kind of soil grows the best grapes, to art and anything else you may wish to ask them about. Comfortable vans took us from place to place, and the hotels they chose in Rome, Siena, Florence, and Venice were clean, comfortable and in safe areas near shopping venues and great restaurants! This 12 day adventure took us to small medieval towns where we wandered for 2 or 3 hours, possibly having lunch or a snack, and then onto the next lovely Tuscan town or city. The highlight of the trip was the day long visit to the "Altiera Winery" (near Greve) where Samuella and Paulo Serra hosted a cooking experience where we learned how to make pasta, pizza, and ravioli....all while enjoying Altiero's wine, olive oil, and cheese offerings!

As travelers, we were expected to pay for our own meals and room taxes, but each hotel we stayed in served a huge choice of breakfast foods, so some days we simply stopped for a cappacino or a thick hot chocolate, and skipped lunch all together!
