The accommodation was unbelievably good and the star gazing evening was brilliant. Being amateur astronomy geeks from the UK we wanted to see the southern night skies; Alastair showed us what we hoped for and more. The cottage was peaceful, secluded, clean and luxurious and Harriet and Alastair made us feel really welcome. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer and we definitely hope to go back again. Watching the sun rise whilst sat on the verandah the morning after the star gazing was amazing.
Advice as to local eateries was spot on.

Room Tip: The cottage had been recently refurbished, modernised and turned into a luxurious place to stay just before we visited.

When Paul Carberry of New Zealand in Depth suggested that he knew of a great B&B that had its own observatory how did we fancy a bit of stargazing we said why not. We were met by Alistair given a tour of our huge ensuite bedroom, private lounge, private deck surrounded by bush/macadamia trees etc. and our own kitchenette, I knew Paul had looked after us again. Alistair arrived with Tea & cake suggested Luke’s Kitchen a local eatery for dinner (see separate report) and that he would see us at 8.00pm for our Stargazers Tour (see second separate report) Great night’s sleep very comfy bed, good shower and breakfast the following morning was all laid out in our private lounge as the deck was damp from overnight rain. We could pick our time so a great lie-in and what a continental, selection of homemade muesli & cereals, fruit juice, homemade fresh fruit salad, oven baked croissants, bread and a toaster to have really hot toast when we were ready, homemade jams, marmalade, homemade macadamia butter and homemade macadamia honey I’ll be the size of a continent if I keep on eating all that is on offer!
Second morning the offer of omelette or scrambled egg as well from our hostess Harriette, what a pair these hosts are, so helpful and enlightening whilst trying not to get in your way. Brilliant stay wish it could have been longer, then there was the star gazing!

Many thanks for your kind review Dennis...we did enjoy meeting both you and Sue when you were here. Also great to hear about your amazing career! I hope spring has sprung back in Scotland for you and you get some clear nights to do some stargazing.

My husband surprised me for our wedding anniversary in the weekend and we stayed in the Miners Cottage, it was amazing! So charming and relaxing, Harriet and Alistair really have made a beautiful B&B. It was perfect! They are both such great hosts and we cant wait to go back! The miners cottage would be perfect for families as well as couples with its 3 rooms and is so homely and done up so well.

Alistair took us star watching and it was amazing, his passion and knowledge is something spectacular and he really explains everything making sure you understand.

We stayed with Harriet and Alistair for 3 lovely calm nights, the breakfast are wholesome and they are wonderful hosts. Alistair's astronomy was a highlight. The accommodation is perfect, the area beautiful. All in all quite holistic, would thoroughly recommend

We booked a star gazing session with Alistair by chance meeting him in Coromandel town for the same night. Blessed with a cloudless sky we made our way to his beautifully situated and originally designed house (we still would like the floor plans). Walking up the starred stairway we were impressed by the dimensions of this private observatory.
The next three hours I will never forget and looking at the stars now I still have all the knowledge imparted that evening. Alistair is more than engaging, he fascinates with his knowledge, his ease at imparting that knowledge, stories of his own eventful and interesting life and his way to make us forget time as he imparts his information in an interactive, playful and at times challenging manner.
We did not stay over night but can only recommend to spend as much time with Alistair and his lovely hospitable wife as possible.
An extraordinary experience and we wouldn't have want to miss it.

Hi Leon and Patricia,

Many thanks for the kind review. You were here on a lovely clear night and I'm glad you enjoyed the experience...it was nice to meet you. Hope you're making good use of the green laser pointer you bought from us...they are very useful as you know, especially when trying to outline constellation shapes to your friends.
