We had bid on a travel package at a fund raiser and won. It included a two night stay at the historic Thayer Hotel. We booked our stay recently and had a wonderful time. It sits on the campus of the West Point Military Academy which was neat. You have to pass through a check point and show ID. Once through the hotel is immediately on your right sitting atop a hill with a great view of campus, and in the back of the hotel, the hudson river and valley. They offer valet parking which is nice as parking near the hotel is limited. Rooms are very nice and each is decorated with the record and accomplishments of West Point graduates which I found very informative. Photos also line the hallways. Beds are extremely comfortable. We requested a quieter section of the hotel which unfortunately for our stay, was not so quiet as trucks kept coming and going all morning both days, their back up warning horns sounding off all morning. The bathrooms are nice though rather dated, not sure if it was done deliberately or not. Nostalgic for me none the less. Free WiFi is provided in the rooms and other common areas of the hotel. It was a problem for us as it seemed to fade and become intermittent each day as the day wore on. Hotel has a main dining room which was very nice, The MacArthur Room, a bar/lounge, and breakfast cafe. Over all, we had a very nice stay. The staff could not have been nicer from front desk to servers. They also have a rooftop out door patio bar which is open in the summer months.More
