We have been going to the Thayer Hotel since my husband's cadet days in the 1960's. So our association, and love for, this hotel goes far back. The hotel's lobby oozes American history, and West Point history. The lobby is furnished with very comfortable sofas and chairs. The rooms themselves have been beautifully updated and are very spacious. The bathroom is also quite large and had a Keurig coffee maker and very nice toiletries. The cups for coffee are paper, as were the water glasses but that simply wasn't an issue for us. Each room in the Thayer is dedicated to a West Point graduate so each room has its own unique history. The beds were extremely comfortable. We had absolutely no problems with the air conditioner, or with outside noise. Our first night there we had dinner in the MacArthur restaurant and our dinners were excellent. My husband had the pork chop and it honestly was one of the best preparations of pork that we have had. I had a delicious mushroom pasta. The portions are huge. There is a lovely roof top bar that overlooks the Hudson river. The new West Point Visitors Center is an easy walk outside of South Gate where tours of West Point can be scheduled. The Thayer Hotel is on the expensive side. But it is a part of West Point history that simply should not be missed. GO ARMY!! BEAT NAVY!!

We had nicely appointed rooms overlooking the river. unfortunately the windows need to be replaced. It was muggy out and the windows held the moisture...seals between are broken so hard to see out. We had 3 rooms for family all windows had the same problem. We enjoyed our stay.

We attended a wedding held at West Point and I felt sorry for the parents who chose this hotel for the wedding party and guests. The expectation of the parents was a convenient historic location and great accommodations and wedding services. From discussion with the wedding coordinator the hotel was incredibly difficult to deal with. From a guest perspective at one of the Wedding events no chilled chardonnay was available and the solution was ice in the wine! The hotel is old and it shows in deferred maintenance, rooms were overpriced, beds uncomfortable, ear plugs furnished to deal with bar noise, scarred furniture, slippery tub terrible front desk service and rules, rules and more rules!
The bell and valet staff did a good job but the front desk reveled in explaining lots of rules and charges added to room cost and had no answers for simple questions. At check in and in the cafe area the personnel could barely speak or understand English.
Also, this property does not accept American Express the card of choice for most business travelers. My experience with the Patton bar was good with fast service and well made beverages but pricey.

Room tip: Based on my room none available.

My wife and I spent a night for our anniversary. I called in advance to surprise her with champagne and a cheese plate. I spoke with Marquis and he could not be more accommodating in helping me with this request. It really made the night special. Everyone on the staff was very friendly and would definer definitely recommend starting the if you up in that area.

This hotel is really the best place to stay while visiting West Point Academy. The hotel practically smells of famous West Point graduates has an aura of a "Grand Dame". Its rich history includes US Presidents, Generals, and Iran hostages of 1981, who were reunited here with their families. The lobby is decorated in an army style with flags, pictures of famous West Point cadets, and a lot of wood. They also charge you with "building fee", which includes WIFI, use of gym, etc. For some bizarre reason 2nd floor has no ice station.
I found my room to be clean, fairly comfortable, with excellent air-conditioner. On the other hand, the paper cups (instead of glass ones) kind of "cheapened" a room somewhat. I had a nice view of the Hudson River. There's a railroad close to hotel so sometimes you can hear a train pass by.
The "McArthur" Restaurant is nice, but breakfast is way overpriced. Also, even though breakfast is served until 10:30am, the last breakfast seating on Sunday is 9:30 - sort of stupid, considering guests may want to sleep late Sunday. I had 2 dinners there and they were very good, particularly steaks. Service was efficient and friendly.
"Zulu" bar offers great view of Hudson, but is also overpriced.
