We travel between New York's Capital Region and Rutland, Vermont on a fairly regular basis and have stopped at the Big Apple for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Great American diner standards. We have never been disappointed. Quaint and homey, for local folk but also seems to be the choice of truck drivers along busy route 149. There are always huge trucks in the large parking lot --- a sure mark of quality eats. You can also buy "scratch" pies, cup cakes, maple products and other baked goods from a display case.

We were passing through on our way home. We had the spaghetti and meatball special. In short everything was heated in the Microwave. The restaurant was clean but it could uses some basic maintenance and upkeep. The restrooms are sub par. If you need to go and you are heading East, wait and go to the Vermont Welcome Station about a mile down the road.

The one thing I can say about the Big Apple diner is the food is great. The prices are a bit on the high side for a diner but we did add dessert so that's what ups the price for us. BLT was fantastic and the pies were delicious. Very friendly and welcoming staff. The one thing that they do need to update is their bathroom facilities. Otherwise a good stop.

Had the Philly steak sub and the chicken and biscuits. Also apple pie and waffles.
Philly was good but lacking in meat. Good cheese not the orange runny type. Chicken and biscuits were ok but roux sauce was a bit lumpy and the dish under seasoned. Carrots were overcooked and old. Apple pie was served with no cream or ice cream. It was a mess on the plate and not great. Asked for cream. Waffle was crisp and tough. Difficult to cut with spoon and chew. Service was unprofessional and abrupt. E.g. "do you want pie". No other choice or dessert menu offered. No refill of iced tea offered although coffee was being refilled at other tables.

I absolutely love this place. The food tastes like my grandma's cooking. I had a bacon cheeseburger with a fried egg. I didn't taste any preservatives, greasy fats, or fancy top notch spices or weird add ons. Just a simple, home cooked, cheeseburger.

I do recommend this place if you get here early. I got here at 8a on a Saturday as the first customers and within 30 mins the dining room was already half full.
