If you are looking for the basic but nice place, this is it! Great views, friendly owner, very clean, close to everything. We went there for the hike (November). The trail is beautiful. Be prepared for quite some ice, and crazy wind, but the views from the top are amazing.

Room Tip: We had room number 11 and we were very happy with it.

if your looking for great mountain views, this is the place to stay. It is just north of the entrance to Whiteface Mountain ski area. Sitting on the balcony, or just looking out the picture windows the mountain views are awesome. Possibly the best scenic property in the Adirondacks. The West Branch of the Ausable River is across the road with easy access just north on RT 86, a great fly fishing river. The rooms could use a slight upgrade, but the beds are very comfortable for a great nights sleep, and the rooms are clean. The new owner is very friendly and accommodating and the staff is very friendly as well.

Room Tip: 2nd floor is better for views

This was our fourth stay at the Ledge Rock, and unfortunately our last. We have always enjoyed saying at this facility. It wasn't fancy, but was perfectly located and always clean with friendly service. We reserved Room 15 (the suite) for our party of six adults in July for our Oktoberfest stay. When we booked, the website stated it was a 2 bedroom suite. On the evening of our arrival we discovered that there was actually one bedroom with a pullout sofa in the living room. There was an adjoining door to another room, which was locked and occupied. When we looked on the site to reconfirm, the wording had been changed to state it was "available" with one or two bedrooms. Another misleading feature on the website was that it stated a continental breakfast, which there was not.

After settling in, I immediately cut my foot on exposed carpet tacks on the floor. We had to wear shoes as much as possible because if we didn't someone got hurt. In the bathroom there was a dangerously loose hanging light fixture, inadequate locks on the door, cracks in the tub and a wait time of over 10 minutes for hot water (when I called to have someone look into our lack of hot water I was told to "just let it run"). There were holes in the wall that were not painted over, just patched. What had once been a very well kept place, looked like a junkyard. There were broken down golf carts, sleds, carriages, vehicles and junk everywhere.

We brought our dog and paid the $25 (plus tax) per night pet "maintenance" fee. Although the grounds were riddled with dog feces, far from maintained. When I brought this to the attention of the owner, he proceeded to tell me that dogs were so much work for him, including his own dog that had just injured an employee and "sent him to the hospital". The dog was chained up outside the office. I'm glad I didn't bring my two young children!

At a rate of $300 a night, you would expect a certain level of comfort. I would have been happy with tidy and safe at a minimum! It's such a shame.

Over priced for what you get. The grounds look like there is a rummage sale going on, Dog feces all over the place. The room was not up to par with previous stays. The carpet was pulled up and tacks were exposed, bathroom light was hanging by the wires, recent patch to the drywall was unpainted you have to run the hot water for approx. 10 minutes before its hot, (that was the fix the owner gave us) seems like a huge waste of water. The great room where my group used to gather is no longer available. Overall the motel is in a great location but that is no longer enough to get us to stay there.

Beautiful, on the outside, with lo lovely grounds and a view of Whiteface Mountain, an Olympic ski venue. Inside, adequate, with signs they are really trying to update this aging motel.

Unable to use their WiFi, and there seemed to be no hot water in the morning. A large relay race that weekend may have explained both problems, as heavy usage could have overwhelmed both.

Very nice people operating Ledgerock, and it is just far enough away from Lake Placid to moderate the price, as well as giving a more rustic Adirondack feel. It's not a Hilton, but I would consider staying there again if in the area.

Room Tip: Lower number rooms, closer to the office, may get hot water sooner.
