This was our first time staying at Sugar Ski and Country Club. It was a great stay. Customer service was excellent. The condo was laid out very nicely. It was also very clean. And of course being able to ski right outside the back door was awesome. Another great feature is the ski rental shop that is based out of the facility on winter weekends. This shop was very convenient. I will definitely stay here every time we visit the area. One thing to consider though is that you will possibly need either a four wheel drive or snow chains to make it to the lodge. I drove a minivan with front wheel drive and put snow chains on at the bottom of the hill and had no problems.

Room Tip: We stayed in condo 412. It had a room with a queen bed, a room with double bunk beds. It also had two full bathrooms and its own washer and dryer in the unit.

We recently completed our stay in building 11 and found the room satisfactory; A minor issue with the entry way light was immediatly resolved by the staff with no other issues during our 3 night stay. Important to know that each of these condos is individually owned and their contents refenct the owner...make sure you look at the pics or ask for more before you make a decision. The condos are dated (at least the ones we saw), but again that is the individual owner and not a direct relfection on the management. The condo had a full size water heater and we never lacked for hot water; there was sufficient cookware and innerware for the few meals we prepare on site, with no issues. The sliding glass door was frozen in place (snow/ice, very cold), but management warned us about this during check in, not that we really needed to use it. Oh, every condo has a GREAT view across the smokies!
There was nearly 8 inches of snow on the ground, but our 4 wheel drive had no issues getting up the mountain...yes, in the winter if there is snow, you must have chains or 4 wheel drive...if you get stuck you are responsible.
The condos are at the top of the Oma's Meadow slope (formerly Big Red) of the Sugar Mtn Ski Resort and yes, you can ski out and down the moutain to the resort from here. Oma's is an intermediate slope and not for beginners, so know your skill level.

Room Tip: Building 11 is a solid 100+yd walk to get on the slopes, but a downhill walk, so not that bad.

The first day that we arrived we were unable to get my car up the mountain due to a snow storm that had come through earlier in the day. We had some friends already in the room and we found a ride up the mountain with a cop since it was almost midnight at this point. The next morning we went to the front desk to see what our options were for getting our car and belongings up the mountain to us. We were given the number of a gentleman who will either tow it or put chains on it for us. Then the girl at the front desk, Melanie, even offered us a ride down the mountain in her personal vehicle so that we could get to the car to meet the gentleman when he came. When we got to the car she offered us her snow brush since we are from Florida and obviously didn't have anything to uncover my car with. Later after getting the car up the mountain and starting our skiing adventures I was injured and unable to ski and could barely walk. Since we skied down we didn't have any way to get back up the mountain and the shuttles don't start running until Friday. So again calls to the front desk were made b/c the roads were getting icy again since it had started snowing again. Ultimately the manager here, Hope, drove down in her personal vehicle to pick us up and take us back to our room. We offered her money for her trouble but she refused simply saying "you're our guests and if we are able to help then we will gladly do so. It's no problem". Everyone that we've come into contact with here at sugar ski and country club has been very friendly and went above and beyond for us. The view is amazing, the room is cozy, and the staff is beyond exceptional. We will absolutely be staying here again.

Sugar Ski and Country Club was built in the early 80's, and appears as though it has never been updated. If you are coming here to ski, be advised that the ski in ski out slope is one of the last to open. They do not seem to make snow on it. if skiing is the main purpose of your trip, spend the extra money and head out west. The cost of a ski trip is cheaper here for anyone in the southeast, but it's not worth it.

Booking & check in was great. Pool & hot tub was so clean & nice having carpet around it! Sauna was nice too. Bathrooms near pool had shower which was handy. It was also nice to be able to rent our skis from the office. Just purchase your lift ticket at Sugar before you drive up the mtn to this complex. Ski locker is outside the unit door which was handy. Bring pool towels since they're not provided. Awesome ski in/ski out condo!!!

Room Tip: Building 5 is close to indoor pool.
